Chet Baker Chet Baker Sings 180g Import LP & 7" Orange Vinyl
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;180g Vinyl LP + Bonus Single On 7 & quot; Orange Vinyl! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Chet Baker Sings is the debut vocal album by jazz musician Chet Baker, released in 1954 by Pacific Jazz Records. In 2001, the album received the Grammy Hall of Fame Award. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;As Gerald Heard's liner notes point out, it's difficult to decide whether Chet Baker was a trumpet player who sang or a singer who played trumpet. When the 24-year-old California-based trumpeter started his vocal career in 1954, his singing was revolutionary; as delicate and clear as his trumpet playing, with a similarly bright and vibrato-free tone, Baker simply didn't sound like any previous jazz singer. His first vocal session, recorded in February 1954 and covering tracks seven through 14 of this disc, is so innocent-sounding it's like cub reporter Jimmy Olsen had started a new career as a jazz singer. The album's first six tracks, recorded in July 1956, are even more milk and cookies, thanks in no small part to syrupy material like Frank Loesser's 'I've Never Been in Love Before' and Donaldson/Kahn's drippy 'My Buddy.' Choices from the earlier session like 'My Funny Valentine' -- arguably the definitive version of this oft-recorded song -- and 'There Will Never Be Another You' work much, much better. The spacious musical setting, a simple trumpet and piano-bass-drums rhythm section, is perfect for Baker's low-key style. Despite the few faults of song selection, Chet Baker Sings is a classic of West Coast cool jazz. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - AllMusic & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; 180g Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Bonus 7 & quot; Single on Orange Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Made in the EU & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Chet Baker, vocals, trumpet & lt;br & gt; Russ Freeman, piano, celesta & lt;br & gt; Carson Smith, double bass & lt;br & gt; Joe Mondragon, double bass & lt;br & gt; Bob Neel, drums & lt;br & gt; Jimmy Bond, double bass & lt;br & gt; Larance Marable, drums & lt;br & gt; Peter Littman, drums & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Released on Argo Records in November 1960 the album was produced by Phil and Leonard Chess. At Last! also rose to no. 12 upon the Billboard Top Catalog Albums chart. At Last! was ranked at #119 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; After spending a few years in limbo after scoring her first R & amp;B hits 'Dance With Me, Henry' and 'Good Rocking Daddy', Etta James returned to the spotlight in 1961 with her first Chess release, At Last! James made both the R & amp;B and pop charts with the album's title cut, 'All I Could Do Was Cry' and 'Trust in Me'. What makes At Last! a great album is not only the solid hits it contains, but also the strong variety of material throughout. On this album one hears the singer at her peak in a swinging and varied program of blues, R & amp;B, and jazz standards. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - AllMusic & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; 180g Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Bonus 7 & quot; Single on Yellow Vinyl (Mono) & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Bonus Tracks & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Made in the EU & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Etta James, vocals & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Bonus Tracks: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Harvey Fuqua - duets with Etta & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong Ella & Louis 180g Import LP & 7" Blue Vinyl
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;180g Vinyl LP + Bonus Single On 7 & quot; Blue Vinyl! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Louis Armstrong's career began nearly 15 years before Ella Fitzgerald's. In fact, Louis was one of Ella's first musical idols, and even at the early stages of her career she would perform a song in her program (usually & quot;Basin Street Blues & quot;) imitating Louis' voice. This routine - which can be heard and seen on different live performances by Ella - is her humorous way of paying homage to Louis. By the early forties, Ella was already a well-known star. Although both Ella and Louis had probably met and performed together previously, they wouldn't be heard on record performing duets until January 18, 1946, when they waxed a single 78-rpm disc coupling & quot; The Frim Fram Sauce & quot; with & quot; You Won't Be Satisfied & quot;. Although they scored a hit on the latter track, they wouldn't return to the studio together until four years later. On August 25, 1950 they recorded & quot; Can Anyone Explain & quot; and a second hit, & quot;Dream A Little Dream Of Me & quot;. Another studio session was made that year, and four titles were cut: & quot;Necessary Evil & quot;, & quot;Oops & quot;, & quot;Would You Like To Take A Walk & quot; and & quot;Who Walks In (When I Walk Out) & quot;. This time the results were less satisfacotry than on the previous attempts, mainly because of the low quality of the songs. This would dramatically change on the three LPs they made between 1956 and 1957, which complete their collective discography - with the sole exception of two live songs ( & quot; You Won't Be Satisfied & quot; and & quot;Undecided & quot;) recorded at a Hollywood Bowl concert on August 15, 1956. Those memorable albums were Ella & amp; Louis, its sequel Ella & amp; Louis Again, and the selection of tunes from George Gershwin's folk opera Porgy & amp; Bess. While the latter utilized a big orchestra conducted by Russell Garcia, the first two albums were made in a small group format. And what an incredible small group! The Oscar Peterson Trio, featuring Herb Ellis and Ray Brown (who had been Ella's husband) received the addition of drummers Buddy Rich (on the first album) and Louie Bellson (on the second). The results: some of the most fascinating jazz music ever produced. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; 180g Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Bonus 7 & quot; Single on Blue Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Made in the EU & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Ella Fitzgerald, vocals & lt;br & gt; Louis Armstrong, trumpet, vocals & lt;br & gt; Oscar Peterson, piano & lt;br & gt; Herb Ellis, guitar & lt;br & gt; Ray Brown, bass & lt;br & gt; Buddy Rich, drums & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. When her debut album was released, Simone was in her mid-20s and still aspiring to be a classical concert pianist. She immediately sold the rights for the songs on this album to Bethlehem for $3,000. This deal eventually cost her royalty profits of more than a million dollars. Simone was dissatisfied by the lack of effort the record company took in promoting her, and after this album she formed a long business relationship with Colpix Records. The album Nina Simone and Her Friends was released after she had left Bethlehem, without her consent, and comprised songs that were left over from the Little Girl Blue recording session. The session was the only one ever recorded for Bethlehem. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; While this was her first recording, the record's grooves evidence an artist who arrives fully formed; many of the traits Simone displayed throughout her career as not only a vocalist and pianist but as an arranger are put on first notice here. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - AllMusic & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; 180g Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Bonus 7 & quot; Single on Green Vinyl (Mono) & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Bonus Track & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Import & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Nina Simone, vocals, piano & lt;br & gt; Jimmy Bond, bass & lt;br & gt; Albert & quot;Tootie & quot; Heath, drums & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1.
