"I'm Not Quite (Letter to Hermione)" was a farewell ballad to Bowie's former girlfriend, Hermione Farthingale. "Love Song" was written by British singer/songwriter Lesley Duncan and later recorded by Elton John for his album Tumbleweed Connection.

In late 1968, David Bowie briefly led a trio called Feathers, which also included his girlfriend Hermione Fatheringale on vocals and guitar, and guitarist John 'Hutch' Hutchinson (who had played with Bowie in 1966 as part of the Buzz). More folk-rockish than other Bowie endeavors before or since, they were a multi-media group that, in addition to performing songs by Bowie and Jacques Brel, used tape recordings and mime. Feathers never released any recordings, but Fatheringale and Hutchinson did play on a couple of unreleased Bowie 1968 tracks, 'Ching-A-Ling' (which eventually came out on the 1984 early Bowie rarities LP Love You Till Tuesday and 'Back to Where You've Never Been.' Hutchinson and Fatheringale also added their voices to a remix of a track from Bowie's 1967 debut album, 'Sell Me a Coat,' which was used for his 1969 short film Love You Till Tuesday and also came out on the Love You Till Tuesday LP. Feathers broke up after a few months, when Bowie and Farthingale's relationship ended, although Bowie continued to work with Hutchinson for a while longer in 1969 as a duo. - AllMusic
