Nathan Milstein Encores 180g Import LP (Vinyl)

He is accompanied by pianist Leon Pommers. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; What the short story is to the novel, the 'encore' is to the standard work in the concert repertoire. It's plot, so to speak, is simple, its content concise, its point quickly made. And among its attributes is the fact, well illustrated by Milstein's choices here, that it may be drawn from almost anywhere. It may be one movement of a longer work for the instrument, or a transcription of a piece originally composed for another instrument, or it may be - as in the curious case of the Kreiser & quot;Classical Manuscripts & quot; - what has been delicately termed an & quot;impersonation & quot;. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Among other things, a collection of encores offers a bird's eye view of a performer's capabilities. In the case of Nathan Milstein, of course, any need for an evaluation of that kind has long since become superfluous. A recital such as the present one simply creates the opportunity of enjoying old favorites played by one of the great violists of our time. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; The execution is without doubt superb. Milstein here is on top of his form, playing with a verve, sparkle and studied virtuosity that is most invigorating. The recording in both mono and stereo versions is excellent, with very forward violin tone sufficiently forward for one to feel that in all probability one will never get physically closer to Milsteins violin in ones life. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; Gramophone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Nathan Milstein, violin & lt;br & gt; Leon Pommers, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;br & gt; Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Mischa Elman Encores 180g Import LP (Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl LP! & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music! & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Violinist Mischa Elman performs compositional works by Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Smetana and more, accompanied by Joseph Seiger at the piano. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Mischa Elman, who was born at Talnoy, Kiev, made his first public appearance as a violinist at a village concert when he was five years old. His prodigious talents soon came to the notice of Leopold Auer, who adopted him as a pupil at St. Petersburg in 1901. Elman's Berlin debut took place in 1904, with immediate and outstanding success, which was repeated in the following year on his first appearance in London when he played the Tchaikovsky concerto at the Queen's Hall. With this same concerto, three years later, he introduced himself to America (New York, December 1908). Since then he has been recognized as one of the world's foremost violinists, and is particularly renowned for his beautiful tone and technical mastery. In the present recording, Mischa Elman presents some of the shorter pieces with which he has captivated audiences all over the world. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Elman still plays with charm and elegance... In this batch of pieces, where the encore wags the concert, so to speak, Elman and Seiger combine war-horses and novelties in captivating manner. I was charmed by the exotic From San Domingo, by Arthur Benjamin, with its echoes of guitars and popular songs. Charles Millers Cubanaise... (its) vivacious rhythms and sonorous middle section are most appealing. Perhaps the item that most listeners will fall for is Elmans arrangement of the so-called Canto Amoroso by Sammartini, an encore which Elman has made peculiarly his own. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Gramophone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Mischa Elman, violin & lt;br & gt; Joseph Seiger, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;br & gt; Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904), Arr. It is supremely beautiful playing from both cellist and pianist (in the Schubert), with never a dead note in even the most incidental bit of figuration, and I suppose we really ought to be grateful that such a humble (albeit charming) little work comes in for so much love. The engineering is superb: the sound is glorious, and so true to life that if you shut your eyes you can imagine the players in your own room. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; Gramophone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Mstislav Rostropovich, cello & lt;br & gt; Benjamin Britten, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;br & gt; Franz Schubert (1797-1828) & lt;br & gt; Sonata in A minor for Arpeggione and Piano & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. To listen yet again to his impregnable virtuosity, mercurial fire and lyrical intensity is to be reminded of what a revelation it was to hear Ricci play these Caprices on the old BBC Third Programme back in the 1950s, enabling one to understand for the first time many things which hitherto had only been glimpsed dimly from reading the music by oneself. Deccas recording of Ricci was outstanding for 1960 and still is remarkable for its clarity, dynamic range, sheer immediacy: the music smoulders and icily glitters by turns. & lt;/b & gt; & quot; - The Grammophone Magazine & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Double LP & lt;br & gt; Gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard & lt;br & gt; Cutting to lacquers at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; Very first 2-vinyl set release for enhanced sound reproduction & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Ruggiero Ricci, violin & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) & lt;br & gt; 24 Caprices, Op. 1 & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Opus 23 No. 2, a zapateado and probably the least unfamiliar piece here, is a fine example, although so also is No. 2 of op. 21, a gracefully swaying habanera whose complex filigree is thrown off with the seeming casualness which is the essence of this sort of virtuosity. What is consistent throughout all nine items is the high, and memorable, quality of the melodies. Opus 22 No. 1, an Andalucian ballad, is fully of lovely tunes, as is the first piece of Op. 23, a playera, with its sorrowful cadences. Occasionally, as in Op. 26 No. 1, a kind of fandango and the longest item here, this is done in the grand manner, yet never too much so. In the exhilarating Navarra Bunt matches Campoli well, and Ibbott is a good accompanist; but all the interest is in the violin throughout. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - The Gramophone Magazine & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard & lt;br & gt; Cutting to lacquers at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Alfredo Campoli, violin & lt;br & gt; Daphne Ibbott, piano & lt;br & gt; Belinda Bunt, violin (Side 2, Track 4) & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908) & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;br & gt; Eight Spanish Dances & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Brahms Symphony No. 1 in C Minor 180g Import LP (Vinyl)

Böhms (Brahms Symphony No.1) is a performance of wonderfully rich detail, the woodwind soli full of character, the orchestral colouring beautifully judged: where Karajan presents a blended totality of sound, Böhm is intent that we should see both the wood and the trees. Böhms view of the Symphony is urgent and vigorous: though he does not miss the broad strength of the introduction, the ensuing allegro has a purposeful athleticism that contrasts most strikingly with the heavy grimness of Karajans reading. The introduction to the finale is also an instructive comparison: Karajan sees it as an eloquent lament, Böhm as a transition of unbearable tension one almost dreads that the great C major theme will not, after all, arrive. This is a noble performance that no Brahmsian should miss hearing, regardless of his current preferences; it is excellently recorded. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - The Gramophone Magazine & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Audiophile 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard & lt;br & gt; Cutting to lacquers at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Berliner Philharmoniker & lt;br & gt; Karl Bohm, conductor & lt;br & gt; Michel Schwalbe, violin solo & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) & lt;br & gt; Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. First Release on 3LP Version! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Renowned cellist Daniil Shafran and pianist Anton Ginsburg perform sonatas for cello and piano by Beethoven. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Daniil Shafran (1923-1997) was one of the worlds best known concert cellists for many years. Many musicians consider him one of the most interesting phenomena of not only cello performing art but also the entire music culture of the 20th century. As many researchers note, Shafran's performance combined intellect and poetic inspiration, an impeccable taste and technique, in-depth interpretation of the authors idea and originality in revealing the contents of works. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Anton Ginsburg (1930-2002) was an outstanding pianist, pupil of Heinrich Neuhaus and winner of the Prague Spring International Competition. He was best known as an ensemble musician performing with Daniil Shafran, Mikhael Khomitzer and Igor Oistrakh. Many critics noted the pianists creative initiatives, temperament and keen musicality. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Daniil Shafran is one of the highest level cellists by his performing manner, by his musical inclinations, and by the wealth and diversity of musical shades. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Carlo Zecchi & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; The Russian cellist extraordinaire, Daniil Shafran whimsical, tripping, intense, sensual, refined and intelligent... a rich source of fascination and stimulation for anyone with an open musical mind. One things for sure: no one plays this music quite like Shafran did. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - The Gramophone Magazine & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 180g Audiophile Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; First time released on 3LP Box Set edition & lt;br & gt; Mastered from original analogue master tapes of Firma Melodiya & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Daniel Krieger & lt;br & gt; Cutting to lacquers at Schallplaten Schneid Technik GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Daniil Shafran, cello & lt;br & gt; Anton Ginsburg, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;br & gt; Cello Sonata No. 1 in F major, Op. 5 No. 1 & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Bach, Tchaikovsky and Debussy. Pianist Leon Pommers provides accompaniment. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;At his best Milstein is superb; for instance in the Wieniawski pieces, Träumerei, and the delightful Sarasate dance. He seems right on top of the listener; one can hear him breathing... and Novácek Perpetuum mobile is magically played. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - The Gramophone Magazine & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Milstein recorded many of these pieces more than once; and although his stylings remained remarkably consistent, these recordings, made in 1957, when Milstein was in his early fifties, are the locus classicus. There's no release of any kind I've more eagerly awaited, and none that I could recommend more highly. When all's said and done,...it would come as no surprise to me if Milstein were to be recognized as the premiere violinist of the 20th century. If anything can hasten that judgment, these recordings can. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Fanfare & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard & lt;br & gt; Cutting to lacquers at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Nathan Milstein, violin & lt;br & gt; Leon Pommers, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Other compositions performed include Ferdinand and Little Sad Sound by Alan Ridout and Tier Gebete by Frieder Meschwitz. Among the performers are violinist Gidon Kremer, pianist Elena Bashkirova, and double bassist Alois Posch. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Everything is clear. Rhythms spring. Individuals get to leave their cherry bombs on the doorstep or to sing beautifully. Argerich and Freire, for example, outrageously mug up & quot;Pianistes, & quot; rhythmically pulling the pianos ever more wildly out of sync, and then bringing them back together with a bang at the & quot;coda. & quot; Irena Grafenauer's flute chirps merrily in & quot;Volieres. & quot; Eduard Brunner on clarinet emits the cuckoo's cry from the middle of the deep woods. I've rarely heard it sound so lonely. Overall, the performance blends extremely high musicianship with kiddie rough-house. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Classical.net & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Special 2LP version for enhanced sound reproduction & lt;br & gt; Direct Metal Mastering & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Hans-Jorg Mauksch & lt;br & gt; Cutting to copperplate at Pauler Acoustics & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; Gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Le Carnaval des Animaux: & lt;br & gt; Martha Argerich, piano & lt;br & gt; Nelson Freire, piano & lt;br & gt; Gidon Kremer, violin & lt;br & gt; Isabelle van Keulen, violin & lt;br & gt; Tabea Zimmermann, viola & lt;br & gt; Mischa Maisky, violoncello & lt;br & gt; Georg Hortnagel, double-bass & lt;br & gt; Irena Grafenauer, flute & lt;br & gt; Eduard Brunner, clarinet & lt;br & gt; Markus Steckeier, xylophone & lt;br & gt; Edith Salmen-Weber, Glockenspiel & lt;br & gt; Ferdinand: & lt;br & gt; Elena Bashkirova, speaker & lt;br & gt; Gidon Kremer, violin & lt;br & gt; Tier-Gebete: & lt;br & gt; Elena Bashkirova, speaker, piano & lt;br & gt; Gidon Kremer, speaker & lt;br & gt; Little Sad Sound: & lt;br & gt; Gidon Kremer, speaker & lt;br & gt; Alois Posch, double-bass & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;br & gt; Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921) & lt;br & gt; Le Carnaval des Animaux & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. His phrasing is beautifully shapely in cantabile. And when scurrying around in Francoeurs Allegro vivo, Rimsky-Korsakovs Bumble-bee and Poppers Elfentanz, he brings a bite to the accentuation which keeps the rhythm both tingling and disciplined. The Weber is a pleasant surprise, but I particularly enjoyed the Dvorak, the Schumann (meant for the horn but with cello as an op-tional alternative) and the Brahms... Brahmss particular brand of deep-hued sentiment is wholly at one with the soul of the cello. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Gramophone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Special 45rpm 2LP version for enhanced sound reproduction & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; Gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; Unreleased bonus track & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Pierre Fournier, cello & lt;br & gt; Lamar Crowson, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;br & gt; Francois Francoeur (1698-1787) & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Considered to be among the most profound of all classical music works, the English music critic, musicologist and composer Wilfrid Mellers described them in 1980 as & quot;Monophonic music wherein a man has created a dance of God. & quot; Due to the works' technical demands, étude-like nature, and difficulty in interpretation because of the non-annotated nature of the surviving copies, the cello suites were little known and rarely publicly performed until they were revived and recorded by Pablo Casals in the early 20th century. They have since been performed and recorded by many renowned cellists and have been transcribed for numerous other instruments; they are considered some of Bach's greatest musical achievements. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; 180g Audiophile Vinyl pressed by Pallas GmbH in Germany. Music doesnt get any more intimate or heartbreaking than & quot;Ständchen & quot; or & quot;Der Müller Und Der Bach & quot;, and its hard to imagine any voice more emotionally eloquent than Mischa Maiskys plangent tone. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Billboard & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;...Maisky's Arpeggione is warm, effortless and, for the most part, judiciously phrased. Daria Hovora remains discreetly in the background (as a musical personality, that is, not as a physical presence) and although I found some of the Allegretto's rubato just a mite contrived, the performance is a good one... & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & quot;...Maisky makes a lovely sound, especially in, say, An die Musik, where the cello's upper registers project with great warmth of tone... & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Gramophone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 180g Audiophile Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Direct Metal Master Double LP & lt;br & gt; Mastered from original Universal Music analogue master tapes & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Hans-Jorg Mauksch & lt;br & gt; Cutting to copperplate at Pauler Acoustics & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; The first time ever on vinyl & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Mischa Maisky, cello & lt;br & gt; Daria Hovora, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Franz Schubert (1797-1898) & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;br & gt; Songs Without Words & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. These are formidable qualities indeed, and the formidable music responds well to them. In Miss Chungs elevated context... there are choices to be made in every bar about which notes to sustain and which to let go, as well as which parts to keep in tempo and which to make subsidiary. Many facets of her playing here will without doubt win the whole-hearted admiration of those colleagues as well as of the rest of us; and the disc is very well recorded indeed. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Gramophone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard & lt;br & gt; Cutting to lacquers at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Kyung-Wha Chung, violin & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;br & gt; Partita No. 2 in D minor for Solo Violin & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Watching Morini play, one felt that she was completely oblivious to the outside world; she seemed mesmerized by her own sounds. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Boris Schwarz & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Erica Morini is most successful on bringing all of Tartinis technical and interpretative aims to fruition. By concentrating on pace, logic and transparent texturing Abbado effectively draws Beethoven into that distinguished circle of musical obsessives whose music he has always conducted as to the manner born. At best, the new technology produces sound of astonishing transparency, I have never heard the finale of the Ninth Symphony so astutely and lucidly performed and recorded, the inner part-writing, vocal and choral, crystal-clear ... it is the studio-made Fourth and the live Ninth which currently stand clear in my memory. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Gramophone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Double LP & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; Audiophile analogue mastering by Rainer Maillard & lt;br & gt; Cutting to lacquers at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; Analogphonic release & lt;br & gt; First time ever on vinyl & lt;br & gt; Gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Claudio Abbado, conductor & lt;br & gt; Karita Mattila, soprano & lt;br & gt; Violeta Urmana, mezzosoprano & lt;br & gt; Thomas Moser, tenor & lt;br & gt; Tomas Quasthoff, bass & lt;br & gt; Swedish Radio Choir & lt;br & gt; Eric Ericson Chamber Choir & lt;br & gt; Tonu Kaljuste, chorus master & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) & lt;br & gt; Symphony No. 9 in d minor, Op. 125 & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Bach recorded 1969-1974. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Daniil Shafran (1923-1997) was one of the world's best known concert cellists for many years. Many musicians consider him one of the most interesting phenomena of not only cello performing art but also the entire music culture of the 20th century. As many researchers note, Shafran's performance combined intellect and poetic inspiration, an impeccable taste and technique, in-depth interpretation of the author's idea and originality in revealing the contents of works. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Shafran's interpretation of Bach's cello suites is marked by his original approach to the music of the great composer, his bold and novel rendition. The musician is a stranger to retrospection, false adherence to tradition and museum-like restoration of Bach's music as well as to its unwarranted modernization. Skillfully making use of the rich expressive potentialities of the cello, of subtle shades of bow touche and vibrato technique and dynamizing the dance element of the pieces, he utilized diverse strokes and accentuation, ranging from well nigh indistinguishable emphasis to sharp and forceful bowing. Shafran seems to translate the logical language of Bachs music into the language of our time. In the cellist's rendition we hear not the Bach of the clavichord and thorough-bass period but Bach as read by a contemporary musician. And listening to Shafran's playing we perceive these works as music full of life and fervency. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - I. Elman begins with reasonable liveliness, but slows down to project the lyrical second subject. Nevertheless, there is more flow and less choppiness here... The Romanze is particularly congenial to the violinist's talent; here he has a chance to sing with freedom of style and beauty of tone, and he takes full advantage of the opportunity. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - High Fidelity & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Audiophile mastering by Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Analogue mastering from the original masters of Universal Music & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Pressed at Pallas GmbH in Germany & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; Obi strip & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Mischa Elman, violin & lt;br & gt; London Philharmonic Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Sir Adrian Boult, conductor & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;br & gt; Max Bruch (1838-1920) & lt;br & gt; Concerto No. 1 In G Minor For Violin And Orchestra, Opus 26 & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1.
