The Catalinbread Naga Viper is a booster in the grand old tradition of the Dallas Rangemaster "Treble-Booster". & nbsp; The Rangemaster has been used by many influential British guitarists including Tony Iommi, Brian May, Marc Bolan, and KK Downing and Glen Tipton of Judas Priest. & nbsp; These guitarists, while completely unique in their styles, share the Rangemaster secret of boosting their cranked tube amps into a juicy, harmonic-laden rock tone that always cuts through the mix. The Naga Viper is Catalinbread & #39; s version of this famous circuit and it enhances the classic circuit with the addition of two extra controls - Range and Heat. & nbsp; The original Rangemaster had just one control - Boost. & nbsp; The Range knob is a continuous control allows you to go from classic treble-boost to a full-range boost and anywhere in-between. & nbsp; The original could only function as a "treble-booster". & nbsp; The Heat knob gives you control over the gain level, unlike the original which was fixed at maximum gain. Why a "treble-booster"? & nbsp; Well, it is not like merely turning up the treble control on an EQ pedal. & nbsp; Besides enhancing treble response, it adds its own subtle harmonic distortion and gives you a lot of "push" to really saturate the front-end of your tube amp. & nbsp; But remember, the Naga Viper has a Range control that allows you to dial in exactly what frequencies get boosted. The traditional way to use a treble-booster is to plug it straight into an already cranked and overdriven tube amp like the Marshalls, Laneys, and Voxes the British guitarists used. & nbsp; Since the amps were already cranked up, a full-range boost would result in a muddy sound with no definition. & nbsp; That is why you want to boost "treble"! Surf's up! And we're all headed to Topanga, our spring reverb pedal based on the legendary Fender 6G15 outboard spring reverb unit! We've captured all the drip, flutter, cluck, clang, and splash of the original tubes and springs unit in a small pedal format! The outboard spring reverb unit is the sound of surf guitar as well as many other great guitar sounds from the sixties. Part of its magic, and how it differs from the internal spring reverb found in most Fender-style amps, is that it is run *in front* of the amp, causing the reverb signal to distort and get more intense than the internal circuit could. It also had a Dwell knob, which controlled how hard the springs were getting hit by the guitar signal, as well as a Tone knob that gave more control over the reverb sound. It was also essentially a tube preamp, so it would color the sound going into the amp. All this added up to a very distinctive reverb sound that is hard to replicate. But we here at Catalinbread had to try! And we think we got it! Catalinbread Coriolis Effect
The Coriolis Effect is a phenomenon in classical mechanics where a trajectory becomes altered due to a rotating frame of reference. The Catalinbread Coriolis Effect has three main parameters to change the equations of motion for your guitar signal. Turning down the Velocity and Acceleration controls drags your playing into the heart of a black hole, redshifting your tone into a lower pitch and filtering out the high frequencies. The Hold button will instantly pull you into the black hole stopping time completely. Plug in and explore where humanity has never shredded before! In short: Think of the Coriolis Effect as a sustainer, wah, filter, pitch shifter, and harmonizer rolled into one—the sonic possibilities are endless! Under The HoodThere are three controls for the Coriolis Effect that can only be accessed by removing the backplate of the pedal. Inside the enclosure you will find two switches for Bypass Switching and Expression Pedal Polarity, as well as a trimmer pot for setting the Gain Level. Expression Pedal PolarityAt the top right corner of the pedal you will find the Expression Pedal Polarity Switch. By default this pedal will be set to the "Normal" setting, which means it will be compatible with the majority of expression pedals that use standard wiring. We also included the "Reverse" setting for those who like to keep their expression pedal set to reverse polarity. For instance, the Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe requires an expression pedal with reverse polarity setting. We added this switch to make life easier for those who may choose to swap their expression pedals back and forth between the Coriolis Effect and the Belle Epoch Deluxe, without having to make adjustments to their expression pedal. Bypass SwitchingIn the bottom left-hand corner of the board you will find a slider switch for setting the type of bypass switching. You can select either True Bypass (labeled "TB"), or Buffered Bypass (labeled "BUFF"). By default, the Coriolis Effect will be set to the True Bypass setting. In this setting, the pedal will be completely bypassed when the effect is turned off. We included the buffer setting for those who prefer that style of bypass switching, however, as with all of our other buffered bypass pedals, when using the buffer setting the Position knob will set the volume of the buffer. In this setting, you must be mindful of the Position knob, as well as the Hold footswitch. In Buffered Bypass mode, as you turn the Position knob counterclockwise you will increase the volume of the buffer. If the Hold footswitch is activated, the sounds coming from the Coriolis Effect will continue to be aduible until the Hold paramter is deactievated (similar to the "trails" feature on other Catalinbread effects).
