Stephin Merritt lived out a Tin Pan Alley fantasy as he spooled his droll bass over synth pop, bubblegum, Afropop, show tunes, country and more. It's irony on steroids, but try to get through 'Papa Was a Rodeo' without shedding a tear. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Rolling Stone, 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Rated 465/500 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Limited Edition - Only 5000 Copies & lt;br & gt; • Six 10 & quot; Vinyl Discs Box Set & lt;br & gt; • Beautifully packaged in 10 & quot; slip-case box & lt;br & gt; • Three double gatefold sleeves & lt;br & gt; • 24 page full-color book & lt;br & gt; • Full download included & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Disc 1 & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Fruit Bats Sometimes A Cloud Is Just A Cloud: Slow Growers, Sleeper Hits And Lost Songs (2001-2021) 2LP (Color Vinyl)

Orders with both pre-order and in stock items will have all in stock items shipped immediately! & lt;/p & gt; & lt;/header & gt; & lt;header & gt; & lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt;20 Year Retrospective On Double LP! & lt;br & gt; Pressed On Limited Edition Pink & amp; Violet Vinyl! & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;/header & gt; & lt;p & gt;Eric D. Johnson, the creative force behind Fruit Bats, doesn't spend a lot of time looking in the rearview mirror. But with the 20th anniversary of his first Fruit Bats release (2001's Echolocation) on his mind, it seemed as good a time as any to take stock of his work-and he's doing so in the form of & lt;strong & gt;Sometimes A Cloud Is Just A Cloud: Slow Growers, Sleeper Hits And Lost Songs (2001-2021) & lt;/strong & gt;, a two-disc collection that tracks the history of Fruit Bats from it's earliest days to right now. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;Thoughtfully compiled by Johnson himself, this set is split in two distinct halves. Set in reverse chronological order, the first disc cherry-picks from Fruit Bats' official releases, including fan favorites - & quot;Humbug Mountain Song & quot; from 2016's Absolute Loser and & quot;The Bottom Of It & quot; from his 2019 Merge debut Gold Past Life - alongside some of Johnson's more personal choices like & quot;Glass in Your Feet & quot; from Echolocation. & quot;I was 25 when I made that record, & quot; Johnson remembers. & quot;I was even younger than that when I wrote that song. I think I hadn't yet learned to write from the heart. I was trying to create a sound. It wasn't even so much about the song at that point. & quot; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;To emphasize both his reticence at dwelling on the past and to showcase how far he has grown as a songwriter, the first disc kicks off with a brand-new track, & quot;Rips Me Up & quot;. Recorded with Josh Kaufman, who helped produce Fruit Bats' 2021 full-length The Pet Parade, the song is a soulful strutter about, as Johnson says in the liner notes for this set, how love & quot;paralyzes and wounds us. & quot; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;If the first disc is & quot;the collection that you buy for your friend that's Fruit Bats-curious, & quot; according to Johnson, the second disc is for longtime fans that want a deeper dive into Fruit Bats lore. To put this half of Sometimes A Cloud Is Just A Cloud together, Johnson dug into several hard drives' worth of material. Included here are lovely early versions of & quot;Rainbow Sign & quot; and & quot;The Old Black Hole & quot;, recorded to a Tascam 4-track just as Fruit Bats was becoming a reality. There's also a rambling take on the Steve Miller Band's classic rock mainstay & quot;The Joker & quot;, and some wonderful never-before-heard original tunes. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;For Johnson, two of the most exciting tracks are & quot;WACS & quot; and & quot;When The Stars Are Out & quot;, both recorded during the sessions for 2011's Tripper. The former is a standout for an appearance by Dinosaur Jr.'s & lt;strong & gt;J Mascis & lt;/strong & gt; who applies a perfect psych-soul solo to the mix. The latter features another special guest, the late, great & lt;strong & gt;Richard Swift & lt;/strong & gt; on piano. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;a name= & quot;SS & quot; & gt; & lt;/a & gt; & lt;iframe width= & quot;560 & quot; height= & quot;315 & quot; src= & quot;https://www.youtube.com/embed/DVG8Batu-Ac & quot; frameborder= & quot;0 & quot; allowfullscreen & gt; & lt;/iframe & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;features & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Features & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ul & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited Edition - 3000 Worldwide & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Pink & amp; Violet Vinyl & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Double LP & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Gatefold jacket & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited time album download & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ul & gt; & lt;/section & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;selections & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Selections & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side A: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Rips Me Up & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Bottom Of It & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Cazadera & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Humbug Mountain Song & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Absolute Loser & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Rock Doc & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side B: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol start= & quot;7 & quot; & gt; & lt;li & gt;You're Too Weird & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Flamingo & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Born In The '70s (Live In Portland) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;When U Love Somebody (Live At Spacebomb) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Glass In Your Feet & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side C: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol start= & quot;12 & quot; & gt; & lt;li & gt;Without Any Airs & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Barely Living Room (Demo) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Baby Bluebird (Waltz Demo) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Hot Dogs & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;WACS & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;When The Stars Are Out & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Aces & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side D: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol start= & quot;19 & quot; & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Joker & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Feather Bed (Demo) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Goodnight Sun & amp; Hello Moon & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Rainbow Sign (4-Track Demo) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Old Black Hole (4-Track Demo) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;/section & gt;

& lt;header & gt; & lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt;20th Anniversary Reissue Of Long-Out-Of Print 2001 Album On Vinyl LP! & lt;br & gt; Includes Bonus CD With 13 Acoustic Demos! & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;/header & gt; & lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt;From Mac McCaughan of Superchunk: & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;To write the songs for Here's To Shutting Up, we gathered in Jim's garage (he lived way out in the woods) a couple times a week for what seemed like months. We started from actual scratch with no demos or concepts, just playing instrumental music with our usual gear plus a Casio. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;We recorded the album in the Cabbagetown neighborhood of Atlanta at Zero Return, the studio built by Brian and Rob (aka Birdstuff and Coco the Electronic Monkey Wizard) of Man or Astro-man? Brian Paulson came with us to produce it. Here's To Shutting Up was meant to be released on September 18, 2001. On September 11, the world changed. Our release date moved a couple weeks, but our tour dates remained and we flew to Japan in October. It was a WILD time to be traveling the world. Receptions ranged from & quot;thank you for giving us something else to think about & quot; to & quot;why are you here? & quot; We flew home from Japan and left for the UK the day the US started bombing Afghanistan. This was the climate, and the climate was not great for playing rock music. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;www.allmusic.com & quot; & gt; Here's to Shutting Up is an enjoyable and refreshing collection that owes as much to the classic sounds of Brian Wilson or early-'70s David Bowie as it does to the punk ethic that established this band as an important alternative to the mainstream in the early '90s. Bursting out of the gate with 'Rainy Streets' and the traditional country-tinged 'Phone Sex,' Superchunk flexes its melodic muscle with an array of textures, balancing a pedal steel with keyboards, acoustic/electric guitars, ambient noises, and strings. Producer Brian Paulson continues in the vein of the band's previous release, Come Pick Me Up, whipping up arrangements that serve the songs with clarity and precision playing. For those who need to rock there is 'Art Class (Song for Yayoi Kusama),' and for those who need to reflect there is 'The Animal Has Left Its Shell.' & lt;footer & gt; -Tom Semioli, AllMusic & lt;/footer & gt; & lt;/blockquote & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;features & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Features & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ul & gt; & lt;li & gt;20th Anniversary Reissue (2021) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Vinyl LP & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Bonus CD with 13 acoustic demos recorded at home in 2021 & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Jacket with printed vellum overwrap & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited time digital download card & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ul & gt; & lt;/section & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;selections & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Selections & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;LP - 2021 Reissue & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Late-Century Dream & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Rainy Streets & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Phone Sex & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Florida's On Fire & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Out On The Wing & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Animal Has Left Its Shell & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Act Surprised & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Art Class (Song For Yayoi Kusama) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;What Do You Look Forward To? & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Drool Collection & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Bonus CD - & quot;Bestial Warning & quot; (Acoustic Demos For Here's To Shutting Up) & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Late-Century Dream & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Rainy Streets & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Hot Break & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Florida's On Fire & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Act Surprised & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;A Collection Of Accounts & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Art Class (Song For Yayoi Kusama) & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Flying AKA Out On The Wing & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Becoming A Speck & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Frank's Bath AKA Phone Sex & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Animal Has Left Its Shell & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Corp Song AKA What Do You Look Forward To? & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Drool Collection & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;/section & gt;
