Here is a batch of inimitable, churning, exquisite folk-pop songs; a concept album about the fragility of precious things. Produced by Grammy-nominated Tucker Martine, Veirs' longtime collaborator, The Lookout is a soundtrack for turbulent times, full of allusions to protectors: the camper stoking a watch fire, a mother tending her children, a sailor in a crows nest and a lightning rod channeling energy. & lt;b & gt; & quot;The Lookout is about the need to pay attention to the fleeting beauty of life and to not be complacent; it's about the importance of looking out for each other, & quot; & lt;/b & gt; says Veirs. & lt;b & gt; & quot;I'm addressing what's happening around me with the chaos of post-election America, the racial divides in our country, and a personal reckoning with the realities of midlife: I have friends who've died; I struggle with how to balance life as an artist with parenting young children. & quot; & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Written and produced on the heels of Veirs' acclaimed album with Neko Case and kd Lang (case/lang/veirs), The Lookout integrates the fluency of collaboration with Veirs' notorious work ethic. The twelve songs on the album are the result of a years' worth of daily writing in her attic studio in Portland, Ore. & lt;b & gt; & quot;Twenty years ago when I was just starting out with my punk band, it never occurred to me to write five versions of a song, & quot; & lt;/b & gt; says Veirs. & lt;b & gt; & quot;I've learned to see how malleable lyrics and melodies can be. I have more tools as a musician so I write many versions of songs until I find the right fit. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; Such range is demonstrated on the operatic vocals of & quot;The Meadow & quot; and the intricate finger picking on & quot;Watch Fire & quot;. & quot;The Lookout & quot;, the album's title track, is an ecstatic anthem to trusted relationships. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The Lookout draws on the talents of a time-tested crew of musicians: Karl Blau, Steve Moore, Eli Moore, Eyvind Kang and Martine. Says Veirs, & lt;b & gt; & quot;These guys are a good hang, ego-free and wonderful players who just want to serve the songs. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; Sufjan Stevens and Jim James provide guest vocals. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; For Martine, who fell, almost two decades ago, for Veirs' unique sound after listening to a tape cassette she'd sent him in the mail, this album reflects a bar that keeps getting raised. Both familiar and strange, The Lookout gets better with repeated listens, warming to the skin like a cherished saddlebag, critical for the journey ahead. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;The Lookout treats us to exactly what we'd expect from Laura Veirs in well-crafted and thoughtful songs delivered with a warm and reassuring familiarity. Those listeners tuning in a little more keenly and willing to try these songs on time and again, though, will undeniably be rewarded with some of the finer fruits of one of the most dependable singer-songwriters working today. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - The Line Of Best Fit & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Overall, it's a collection of folk- and country-oriented rock that shows Veirs' sharp focus for songwriting and arrangement, knowing when to let a song stay personable and conversational and knowing when to take a composition into gorgeous, otherworldly places. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Stereogum & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;a name= & quot;SS & quot; & gt; & lt;/a & gt; & lt;iframe width= & quot;560 & quot; height= & quot;315 & quot; src= & quot;https://www.youtube.com/embed/srwAMHbHVAE & quot; frameborder= & quot;0 & quot; allowfullscreen & gt; & lt;/iframe & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Laura Veirs July Flame LP (Crystal Clear Vinyl)
& lt;header & gt; & lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt; & quot;The Best Album Of 2010 & quot; On Limited Edition Crystal Clear Vinyl LP! & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;/header & gt; & lt;p & gt;Laura Veirs' seventh album July Flame, which Colin Meloy calls & quot;the best album of 2010, & quot; explores the emotion of mid-summer. Drenched in wood smoke, sunlight, pollinators, pastoral dales, fireworks and warm nights, her lyrics explore the dichotomy between one's desire for permanence and security and the realization that such things rarely exist. Nowhere on the album is this inherent tension more crystallized than on the title track. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;On a day in late July 2008, when the sun was hot enough to melt the skin, Veirs and a friend stumbled upon a booth at the Portland, Ore. farmer's market selling July Flame peaches. Veirs so liked the name that she suggested she and her friend each write a song with that title. They bought a bunch of peaches and canned them in their bathing suits on the hottest day that summer. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;The peaches, spiked with cloves and drenched in syrup, turned out great, and the song is one of Veirs' best ever. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt; & quot;I'd been in a songwriting slump at that time and writing that song pushed me over my plateau and into a new place where I was surprising myself again. I invented oddball tunings so I was really using my ear to search out new-sounding melodies and patterns, & quot; says Veirs. & quot;I wrote this album from a searching, soulful place. I hope it elicits a real gut feeling. & quot; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;Composed mostly on her & quot;crappy nylon-string guitar, & quot; (though also on her Les Paul electric guitar, banjo and piano), in the barn behind her house in Portland, Ore., July Flame is a relatively stripped-down folk record highlighting Veirs' masterful finger picking guitar and confident vocals. & quot;Laura's like the queen bee and my ear is her hive; she nests and makes honey in the hairs of my cochlea, & quot; says Jim James of My Morning Jacket (who sings on several tracks). & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;The album breaks from Veirs' previous full-band efforts, although many of the same players make appearances on the album, including longtime collaborators Karl Blau and Steve Moore. String arrangements are featured more on this album than on others; the brilliant improviser Eyvind Kang plays viola on many songs, and legendary arranger Stephen Barber composed hauntingly beautiful string quartet arrangements for three songs. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;July Flame is the sixth album that Laura and producer Tucker Martine have made together. Recorded and mixed at their home, the songwriting, arrangements, production and performances create a fully realized piece of art that inspires reflection and calm in a world that spins unsteady. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;features & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Features & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ul & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited Edition & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Crystal Clear Vinyl & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ul & gt; & lt;/section & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;selections & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Selections & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side A: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;I Can See Your Tracks & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;July Flame & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Sun Is King & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Where Are You Driving? & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Life Is Good Blues & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Silo Song & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Little Deschutes & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side B: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol start = & quot;8 & quot; & gt; & lt;li & gt;Summer Is The Champion & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;When You Give Your Heart & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Sleeper In The Valley & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Wide-Eyed, Legless & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Carol Kaye & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Make Something Good & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;/section & gt;

Laura Veirs Carbon Glacier LP (Clear & Black Swirl Vinyl)
& lt;header & gt; & lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt;Limited Edition Clear & amp; Black Swirl Vinyl LP! & lt;br & gt; Groundbreaking Album Back On Vinyl After Almost 15 Years! & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;/header & gt; & lt;p & gt;Carbon Glacier was originally released on CD in 2004, later released on vinyl in 2007. It has been out of print since 2010. It is widely seen as a groundbreaking album in the Laura Veirs canon. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;On her Nonesuch debut Carbon Glacier, Veirs reimagines folk music in a bravely boundary-crossing way, employing the genre as a jumping-off point to create an intimate, affecting sound entirely her own. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;Veirs' songs are steeped in natural imagery, blending influences ranging from folk to blues to punk. A Seattle (now Portland) resident by way of Colorado, Veirs' background in geology and kinship with the rugged landscape she grew up in meld together with her punk performing roots to form an unusual musical outlook. Her collaborators on Carbon Glacier, The Tortured Souls, reflect this vision of a style that spans rock, jazz, and avant-garde: producer/drummer Tucker Martine has collaborated with Bill Frisell, Jim White, and Modest Mouse; viola player Eyvind Kang performs with Beck and Frisell while leading his own ensemble; Lori Goldston, who toured with Nirvana, plays cello; Steve Moore adds trombone and keyboards; and Karl Blau contributes bass, guitar, and vocals (both Moore and Blau are veterans of the Northwest underground folk and rock community). & lt;/p & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;www.pitchfork.com & quot; & gt; Carbon Glacier is a cold, beautiful and engaging record that translates the bleak, isolated vastness of nature into the bleak, isolated vastness of the modern city-sprawl, leaving one voice to sing in solitude. & lt;footer & gt; -Pitchfork & lt;/footer & gt; & lt;/blockquote & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;quote source & quot; & gt; This is an oddly beautiful album - far more engaging than you'd expect of one written in a grey Seattle winter, pondering mortality, Moby Dick and the great sheet of blackened ice after which it's named. & lt;footer & gt; -The Guardian & lt;/footer & gt; & lt;/blockquote & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;features & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Features & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ul & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited Edition & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Clear & amp; Black Swirl Vinyl & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ul & gt; & lt;/section & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;selections & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Selections & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Ether Sings & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Icebound Stream & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Rapture & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Lonely Angel Dust & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Cloud Room & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Wind Is Blowing Stars & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Shadow Blues & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Anne Bonny Rag & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Snow Camping & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Chimney Sweeping Man & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Salvage A Smile & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Blackened Anchor & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Riptide & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;/section & gt;

Laura Veirs Year Of Meteors LP (Glow-In-The-Dark Vinyl)
& lt;header & gt; & lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt;Poetic 2005 Album On Limited Edition Glow-In-The-Dark Vinyl LP! & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;/header & gt; & lt;p & gt;On Year Of Meteors, familiar surroundings come into sharper focus as the lyrical themes of the sky and outer space now seem mysterious, magical and new. Veirs' lyrical allusions to the natural world are disarmingly dreamlike yet scientifically precise. Using synergistic elements of contemporary folk, Americana, alternative rock and laptop style electronics, she creates an amalgam that remains her own. There's an elegantly sad quality, a jagged yearning, forcing you to be silent witness to this exquisite, seductive pain. With soft electronic rhythms and tape loops bubbling underneath, her impassive voice lays out rich melodies that build and explode around standout tracks like & quot;Galaxies & quot; and & quot;Parisian Dreams. & quot; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;With its brooding intellectualism, intricate arrangements, and clever wordplay, Laura Veirs' 2004 debut on Nonesuch, Carbon Glacier, found its way on to a great many critic's & quot;best-of & quot; lists (and rightfully so). The Portland-based singer/songwriter once again pays homage to her geology background with Years of Meteors, a diverse collection of meandering pop songs that parallel her most recent European/American tour. Transience is the common theme here, and Veirs sets her enviable verbal skills to task on standout tracks like & quot;Magnetize, & quot; & quot;Parisian Dream, & quot; and & quot;Secret Someone & quot; - the latter boasts a divine bit of travel-weary imagery: & quot;A smile would melt me to an asphalt strip/where all would travel/where all would tread and trip. & quot; As with Glacier, Veirs employs her trusted backup band, the Tortured Souls, to flesh out the material. Led by drummer/producer Tucker Martine, they sound like a tightly knit group now, trading tasteful licks and never overplaying. Flashes of viola, upright bass, and ultra-compressed percussion float in and out. That Veirs manages to keep the mood so sparse while so much is going on is impressive in its own right, but it's that old reliable brooding intellectualism, the intricate arrangements, and the clever wordplay that will keep listeners glued to each and every track. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;features & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Features & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ul & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited Edition & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Glow-In-The-Dark Vinyl & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ul & gt; & lt;/section & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;selections & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Selections & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Fire Snakes & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Galaxies & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Secret Someones & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Magnetized & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Parisian Dream & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Rialto & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Through the Glow & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Cool Water & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Spelunking & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Black Gold Blues & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Where Gravity Is Dead & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Lake Swimming & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;/section & gt;

Laura Veirs My Echo LP (Gold Vinyl)
& lt;header & gt; & lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt;Deeply Personal 11th Solo Album On Limited Edition Metallic Gold Vinyl LP! & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;/header & gt; & lt;p & gt;My Echo is Laura Veirs' eleventh studio album, and includes appearances and features from & lt;strong & gt;Jim James, Bill Frisell, Karl Blau, Matt Ward & lt;/strong & gt; and others. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;Laura says: & quot;My Echo is 'my songs knew I was getting divorced before I did' album. My conscious mind was trying as hard as I could to keep my family together but my subconscious mind was working on the difficult struggles in my marital life. I was part of a 'Secret Poetry Group' that met and wrote poems monthly for a year during the writing of this record. Many of my poems turned into songs for this album. By the time the album was being mixed last fall, my ex-husband/producer Tucker Martine and I had decided to go our separate ways. We were a great musical team for many years but we struggled to be compatible in our marriage and family life and that struggle is reflected in this album. In this new batch of songs I imagine escaping from some sort of prison or cage. Advancing age, the confines of domesticity, our oppressive government and the threat of the apocalypse permeate these songs. In these songs my heart craves certainty and permanence but none is to be found. It's an album about disintegration. It reveals my artist's intuition at work. & quot; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;features & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Features & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ul & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited Edition & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Metallic Gold Vinyl & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ul & gt; & lt;/section & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;selections & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Selections & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side A: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Freedom Feeling & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Another Space And Time & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Turquoise Walls & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Memaloose Island & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;End Times & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side B: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Burn Too Bright & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Brick Layer & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;All The Things & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;I Sing To The Tall Man & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Vapor Trails & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;/section & gt;
