& lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt;TAS Super LP List! Special Merit: Film and Broadway Score & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt;
& lt;header & gt; & lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt;Half-Speed Mastered 180g Virgin Vinyl Double LP! & lt;br & gt; Pressed At Record Technology Inc.! & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;/header & gt; & lt;p & gt;John Williams is a game changer. Early in his career he crossed the lines between music that was & quot;art & quot; and music that was & quot;commercial, & quot; and never looked back. He is one of the best known, most awarded and most successful composers in US history, and his name is inextricably connected to outstanding music for films. He has written scores for over 100 films, and his massive list of awards includes 51 Academy Award nominations and five wins, as well as 24 Grammy & amp;#174; awards. A less-known fact is his fondness for writing, arranging and conducting wind band music. This collection of his film music includes favorites from Star Wars, Superman, JFK, ET and many more, arranged for concert performance by top-level wind ensemble. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;Brilliant performances by The Dallas Winds were recorded in spectacular audiophile sound by Reference Recordings' own award- winning engineering team: Keith O. Johnson and Sean Royce Martin. The engineers and album received GRAMMY & amp;#174; nominations in 2018 for Best Engineered Album, Classical and Best Classical Compendium for the 61st GRAMMY & amp;#174; Awards. John Williams: At The Movies features soloist Christopher Martin, principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic. The recording was made in Dallas Texas, in the Morton H. Meyerson Concert Center, one of the world's greatest concert halls, and the site of an annual Dallas Winds concert featuring the film music of John Williams. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;John Williams: At The Movies was Reference Recordings' first wind band recording to be released as a hybrid SACD (RR-142SACD in 2018). Due to popular demand, we are now thrilled to offer this deluxe 2-LP set of the same music! This is our 18th album with The Dallas Winds, and is a project of which we are extremely proud, that was years in the making. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;The Dallas Winds is the leading professional civilian wind band in the United States today. In his 25th season as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Dallas Winds, Jerry Junkin is recognized as one of the world's most highly regarded wind conductors. He has also served as Music Director and Conductor of the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia since 2003, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music Wind Symphony in Tokyo since 2007. Additionally, 2017-18 marks his 30th year on the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin, where he holds the Vincent R. and Jane D. DiNino Chair for the Director of Bands. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;For over 40 years, Reference Recordings has been one of the most innovative and respected independent labels in the music business. Reference Recordings releases have been highly praised for their dedication to high quality sound in the service of great music. Founder Tam Henderson (1998 GRAMMY & amp;#174; nominee for Producer of the Year), was joined in 1978 by engineer Keith O. Johnson. Some 150 projects later, RR is still recording what many consider to be the finest-sounding classical, jazz and blues discs in the world. & lt;/p & gt;

The sound is everything you want in an eye-popping audiophile recording, while maintaining artistic integrity. The pyrotechnics are especially evident on the Lucas film-based music, where the percussion has you wishing you had opted for one size larger in speakers. Dynamics swing from dead quite black backgrounds to huge crescendos of percussion and trumpets in the 'Imperial March' appropriate for the theme song of one of the twentieth century's darkets villians. This is the ideal record set to pull out to get your audiophile friends' juices flowing - just skip the wine and cheese and fill up the popcorn bowl, and don't skimp on the volume level.

The MINNESOTA ORCHESTRA and conductor EIJI OUE display a real affinity for these Copland masterpieces: Fanfare for the Common Man and the magnificent Third Symphony. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;...There has never been a stereo recording of Copland's Third that approaches the concert-hall experience. Until now. This recording clearly has great value as a musical experience, but it also sets a new standard as a sonic showcase for a nearly impossible-to-record work. & lt;/b & gt;- Arthur B. Lintgen, & lt;i & gt;The Absolute Sound & lt;/i & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;A compelling performance of the Third Symphony. I think this is among the best recordings since Bernstein - and the sound is spectacular. & lt;/b & gt; - Peter Dickinson, GRAMOPHONE & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;This is the best interpretation of the Copland Third in a generation, and the sound is Keith Johnson at his considerable best. The record is among the more convincingly realistic I know... You'll hear a remarkably lifelike sense of ambience, the orchestral weight and volume filling the hall. Tonality is spot-on. Throughout brass choirs are throaty, richly textured, and creamy; strings are sweet, and one also experiences the sense of wood and rasp of bow against string, and the percussion has notable texture and detail. Dynamics, too, which can sometime seem extreme in Johnson's work, are beautifully wide and explosive, yet nuanced. The 180-gram deluxe vinyl pressings from QRP are truly exceptional. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Multiple Configurations for Reference Mastercuts & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Depending on program lengths, some releases are cut at 45 rpm, some at 33-1/3 rpm. Some are single discs, some double. All feature deluxe gate-fold jackets crafted by Stoughton Printing . An unusual feature of new RR masterings is called the & quot;FDS finish & quot;: the end of each side will have a 30-second band of silent grooves before the & quot;pull-away. & quot; No one today uses a record changer, and the silent grooves allow time to lift the arm before the always-somewhat-noisy tie-off. (Some 1950s vintage Capitol Full Dimensional Sound pressings sported this feature.) RR founder, J. Tamblyn (Tam) Henderson deserves special recognition for identifying the value of this unique production feature and reintroducing it with the new Mastercuts. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Note: & lt;/b & gt; Half-speed Mastering involves a capturing process in which the original recording master is played back at exactly half of the recorded speed. A sequenced cutting lathe is then timed at exactly half of the playback speed. This process allows twice as much time to carve a groove that accurately represents the sound on the master tape. Half-speed mastering allows for cleaner reproduction and also permits extended high frequency response, extending into the ultrasonic region. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;'Prof.' Keith Johnson's First Blues Recording! & lt;/b & gt; 13 new MacLeod originals highlight this richly detailed recording, done at Skywalker Sound in Marin County, CA. by Reference Recording's Grammy® winning engineer. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Produced by Doug MacLeod and Janice Mancuso the 13 tracks on & quot;There's A Time & quot; showcase his soulful vocals and trademark guitar sound backed by Denny Croy on bass and Jimi Bott, one of the most recorded, awarded and respected blues drummers in the world. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Doug says: & lt;b & gt; & quot;Making this album was different than any other one I've done in the past, & quot; recalls MacLeod about the sessions. & quot;They put Jimi, Denny and me on this huge soundstage at Skywalker Sound in Marin County and we sat around in a circle where we could see each other. We played live, no overdubs, just three guys playing some music together. & quot; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & quot;Simply put, Jimi and Denny are two of the finest musicians I have ever had the pleasure to make music with. I've been known to change arrangements on the spot: add a bar here, take away a bar there. I go with the feeling of the moment. Both Jimi and Denny have this uncanny ability to follow that - even under what could have been pressure circumstances for other musicians. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; A perennial Blues Music Award nominee, MacLeod has been nominated for Acoustic Artist of the Year. (Drummer Jimi Bott is also a BMA nominee). & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Doug is a throwback musicians in the great tradition of the traveling bluesman from the genre's classic era, having apprenticed with some of the best as a sideman with such legends as Big Joe Turner, Pee Wee Crayton, Eddie & quot;Cleanhead & quot; Vinson, Big Mama Thornton and George & quot;Harmonica & quot; Smith. During that time, he developed his unique, unorthodox and powerfully rhythmic acoustic guitar style, which he puts to great use on & quot;There's A Time & quot; playing on a variety of guitars with such pet names as & quot;Moon & quot; (a National M-1 Tricone), & quot;Little Bit (a Gibson C-100 FE) and & quot;Owl & quot; (a National Style & quot;O & quot;), plus a National El Trovador 12-String. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The other element of Doug's style is his remarkable ability as a storyteller, another trademark of the classic itinerant blues musician. Listening to the songs on There's A Time is like attending a master class on storytelling, as MacLeod weaves tales that are visceral, insightful and often humorous. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Like the old masters who taught him, MacLeod's songs are based primarily on his own life and experiences, instilled with the spirit one particular influential bluesman once told him: & lt;b & gt; & quot;Never play a note you don't believe, and never write or sing about what you don't know & quot;. & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; In a career that spans over 30 years, Doug's songs have been covered by such artists as Albert King, Albert Collins, Joe Louis walker, and Eva Cassidy. Two of his songs were on Grammy-nominated albums by King and Collins. He's co-written tunes with Dave Alvin and Coco Montoya, and his songs have been featured in many TV movies, as well as the hit TV series & quot;In The Heat of the Night & quot;. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;It's simple music, performed with love...What a performance it is too, haunting and powerful, with dynamics that emphasize the drama in the stories of the songs. Its unrushed, unhurried nature lets it sit like a warm blanket wrapping you in the imagery it calls to mind...The songs are not hidden, the playing is not either and everyone is on top form, something special is going on here and as a listener you feel part of the magic...Part of the magic is down to the quality of the sound...the sound has real presence and a sense of space, it has punch and power aplenty...This is as near to a faultless disc as I have heard in a long time. From Dougs high-toned voice that calls to mind Robert Johnson, to the choice of the right instrument for the song, to the attention to detail in the recording, every care has been taken to make sure that this is the best album it could be. Its alive, honest and moving and as a blues fan I can ask for nothing more. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Ian McHugh, UKjazzradio.com host & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;There's A Time is his moment. Recorded live with no overdubs at George Lucas' Skywalker Sound, this intimate audiophile quality recording (with bassist Denny Croy and drummer Jim Bott) is a mostly laidback affair that finds MacLeod imparting a timeless quality to a baker's dozen originals. His expressive vocals are almost Skip James wistful. On guitar, he strums and slides through an apocrypha of alternative tunings played on a rich cache of classic six- and twelve-string acoustics. This master storyteller has a knack for exploring the space between the notes, delivering quiet, thoughtful asides and blues sermons, sometimes saturated in Jack and Coke or steeped in the swampy mysticism of the Delta blues tradition. Fans of John Hammond Jr., Chris Thomas King, and Eric Bibb take note. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Greg Cahill, The Absolute Sound, May/June 2013, Music 4/5, Sonics, 4.5/5 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;[A]s if great music alone were not quite enough, the quality of the sound is equally impressive... This is the first blues release by Reference Recordings, and its quite an accomplishment for a freshman effort. Ive heard most of Reference Recordings' LPs over the years, and for my money this is the best-sounding yet. Forget the ones on your personal list; Ill wager that you will find the sound of this new release to be even better. Its just MacLeod solo on one of several guitars, with bass and drum accompaniment on a few tracks. The background is dead silent, allowing you to hear every low-level sound. The foldout cover describes and provides pictures of the Gibson and National guitars MacLeod plays, and they are so well captured that I found myself listening over and over again just to soak up the individual character of each instrument. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Dennis Davis, theaudiobeat.com, Music 4.5/5, Sound 5/5 & lt;br & gt; & lt;a href= & quot;http://www.theaudiobeat.com/music/gaines_mcleod_rush_shines_lp.htm & quot; & gt; & lt;font color= & quot;#0000FF & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;Click Here to read the entire review! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;/a & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Recording engineer Keith O. Johnson, best known for the spacious, wide sound stages and thunderous dynamics found on References classical music recordings, shows here that he can capture the enormous Skywalker space without losing the players in a watery reverb grave. Yes, you'll see and feel the vast space referenced in the room's reverb but the images are stable and sufficiently intimate to sound close by. Johnson is well known for capturing an orchestra's lower registers. Here he perfectly gets the string pluck and body of Croy's 1948 Kay double bass as well as the punch of Bott's kick drum. The bottom end of this recording is positively awesome. If it sounds muddy, blame your system not Johnson's recording. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Michael Fremer, analogplanet.com, Music 9/10, Sound 10/10 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 45rpm & lt;br & gt; 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Double LP & lt;br & gt; Half-speed Mastered by Paul Stubblebine & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Quality Record Pressings & lt;br & gt; Deluxe Stoughton gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Doug MacLeod, guitar, vocals & lt;br & gt; Denny Croy, bass & lt;br & gt; Jimi Bott, drums & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP1 - Side 1: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. & lt;p & gt;MacLeod's third release with Reference Recordings is 'Genuine Original Acoustic Music' at its very best, in a richly detailed recording by Grammy-winning engineer Keith Johnson, made at Skywalker Sound in Marin County, CA. & lt;/p & gt;
& lt;p & gt;In live performance, Doug MacLeod assures his audience & quot;This song is going to go exactly like this. & quot; It's presented just for them, not a repeat of any performance he's ever given or will ever give. He records the same way, each of his original songs are
offered with a fresh voice. EXACTLY LIKE THIS contains eleven MacLeod originals reflecting and paying tribute to some of his diverse musical influences: Louis Jordan, Wes Montgomery, Jerry Reed, Tony Joe White, John Lee Hooker, and even a little Duke
Ellington. In his previous 19 studio albums, several live records, compilations, a blues guitar instructional DVD and a live performance DVD, MacLeod has consistently earned raves. His songs have been covered by many artists including Albert King, Albert
Collins, Joe Louis Walker and Eva Cassidy. He has co-written songs with Dave Alvin and Coco Montoya. MacLeod's songs have been featured in many TV movies and the hit show In the Heat of the Night. Two of his songs are on Grammy nominated albums by Albert
King and Albert Collins. & lt;/p & gt;
& lt;p & gt;Doug MacLeod isn't just a blues guy, he's a singer/songwriter/storyteller and serious guitarist. He is one of the few modern artists doing all original material and traveling the country like a troubadour. Just Doug, headed down the road in his Honda,
baseball on the radio, Siri by his side and a trunk full of music! & lt;/p & gt;

This new Reference Mastercuts LP release is a single 180 gram disc, half-speed mastered at 33 1/3 rpm by Paul Stubblebine, pressed on virgin vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, and contained in a beautiful gatefold jacket with original artwork. A perennial hi-fi favorite recorded by Keith O. Johnson! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Twenty-five years after releasing the Grammy-nominated Arnold Overtures, Reference Recordings has reissued it as a 180-gram, half-speed-mastered LP, and what an LP it is. This is the 10th album by the Hot Club of San Francisco, America's longest-running and finest Gypsy Jazz ensemble. The album contains explorations of Django Reinhardt's tunes, plus originals and more. The shimmering, lifelike sound is some of Professor Johnson's finest: you'll swear the group is in the room with you! As a special bonus, two tracks feature mandolinist extraordinaire David Grisman. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The Hot Club of San Francisco is a quintet of accomplished and versatile musicians who celebrate Django Reinhardts and Stephane Grappellis renowned Hot Club de France. The ensemble borrows the all-string instrumentation of three guitars, violin and bass from the original Hot Club, but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the groups superb lead guitarist, Paul Mehling. Hearing the ensemble takes the listener back to the 1930s and to the small, smoky jazz clubs of Paris. The music of The Hot Club of San Francisco has entranced audiences around the globe for more than a decade. Their performances have been hailed as intricate, scorching, and often brilliant (Acoustic Guitar). & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Mandolinist David Grisman, father of Dawg music and good friend of The Hot Club, makes a special guest appearance on two tracks. The set is further enhanced by bandoneon virtuoso Seth Asarno. Two bonus tracks feature the quintet augmented by three Dixieland horns! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Recorded by multi-Grammy-nominated Prof. Keith Johnson at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California, the Yerba Buena Bounce sessions benefited from the historic ambience, scene of hundreds of classic jazz and rock recordings. Using his own custom-built microphones and electronics (as always), Johnson was able to utilize some of Fantasys unique facilities, such as a legendary echo chamber, to add luster to his always life-like soundscapes. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Reference Recordings has gone out of their way to make this double album of special audiophile interest. First, both discs are 200 grams, rather than the usual 180 gram audiophile standard for vinyl reissues. Then each of the four sides ends in a couple minutes of quiet grooves so you wont have to deal with the noisy swishing at the center label if you dont jump up immediately at the end of each 45 rpm side. The good-natured battles between lead guitar and fiddle are heard in nearly all the tracks. Its a pleasure to hear the musicians so clearly free and unencumbered by misguided current leadership. As the note-writer says & quot;The beauty and joy and swing of this music is infectious! & quot; & quot; & lt;/b & gt;- John Henry, audaud.com, 5/5 Stars!! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 45rpm & lt;br & gt; 200g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Double LP & lt;br & gt; Half-speed Mastered by Paul Stubblebine & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Quality Record Pressings & lt;br & gt; Deluxe Stoughton gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Ari Munkres, cello & lt;br & gt; Jason Vanderford, guitar & lt;br & gt; Evan Price, violin & lt;br & gt; Jeff Magidson, guitar & lt;br & gt; Paul Mehling, vocals(16,17), guitar & lt;br & gt; Bill Carter, clarinet & lt;br & gt; Marc Caprone, trumpet & lt;br & gt; Clint Baker, trombone, tuba & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP1 - Side 1: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Johnson, Reference Recordings Technical Director and audio legend. In her self-penned and illustrated liner notes Fiona makes the declaration, & lt;b & gt; & quot;'Professor' Keith's amazing approach to capturing sounds, mostly with his own hand built equipment, is nothing short of sonic alchemy. & quot; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Half-speed mastered & quot;...our heroine perpetuates the blues legacy with a brave attitude and amazing conviction. & quot; - & lt;/b & gt;Vicente Zumel, La Hora Del Blues & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; In solo, duo and trio settings, Fiona presents 16 tunes (14 originals and 2 covers), employing a traditional acoustic guitar, two different metal body resonators and a unique 4-string cigar box guitar. Joining her are two highly respected instrumentalists; drummer & lt;b & gt;Jimi Bott & lt;/b & gt; and bassist & lt;b & gt;Denny Croy & lt;/b & gt;. Recorded at Skywalker sound in Marin County, California, Professin the Blues, like all Prof. Johnsons sessions, was & lt;b & gt;recorded live, in real-time, with no overdubs or effects & lt;/b & gt;. Co-produced by Fiona Boyes and Janice Mancuso. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The majority of the songs are written by Boyes showcasing Delta Blues influences with a little Caribbean thrown in. For the most part, the songs are paired down to the nub. Voice with guitar, with sundry percussion once in a while, drums and bass make an appearance. Of course, this instrumentation appears on many blues albums, but Boyes has a way of drawing in the listener into her stories. It's very intimate, very personal. Like Bille Holiday and Bessie Smith, Boyes takes you on her journey. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; From the wonderful liner notes, Boyes seems to have made a BFF in Johnson, the engineering alchemist of Reference Recordings. He's the reason why each Reference release with his imprimatur is awaited eagerly. His magic appears on this album from the very beginning. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Australian Blues guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Fiona Boyes has been recording and performing for more than 25 years, building a career that has taken her to major festivals and stages around the world. A veteran recording artist with 13 releases, she has received 5 Blues Music award nominations in 4 different categories from the Blues Foundation in Memphis, more than 30 Australian music awards, worldwide accolades and legions of supporters. Fionas immersion in the rich musical and historical traditions that make up the Blues lend conviction and authenticity to both her guitar work and songwriting. Her abundant talent, artistic sincerity and musical integrity are a beacon. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; For 40 years, REFERENCE RECORDINGS has been one of the most innovative and respected independent labels in the music business. Reference Recordings releases have been highly praised for their dedication to high quality sound in the service of great music. Founder Tam Henderson (1998 Grammy® nominee for Producer of the year), was joined in 1978 by engineer Keith O. Johnson. some 140 projects later, RR is still recording what many consider to be the finest-sounding classical, jazz and blues discs in the world. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Fiona Boyes, one of the world's best fingerpicking blues guitarists, had wanted to record an album with engineer and recording alchemist 'Professor' Keith O Johnson for ages. She didn't expect it would involve rubber chickens.
The result? That album, Professin' the Blues, has just won best acoustic album for 2017 at the Blues Blast music awards in the US, making Boyes the only Australian to achieve the feat. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Gareth Hutchens, The Guardian & lt;a href= & quot;https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/sep/28/fingerpicking-good-how-blues-guitarist-fiona-boyes-arrived-with-help-from-a-rubber-chicken?CMP=share_btn_fb & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt; & lt;font color= & quot;#0000FF & quot; & gt;Read more! & lt;/font & gt; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/a & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 45rpm & lt;br & gt; 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Double LP & lt;br & gt; Half-speed Mastered & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Quality Record Pressings & lt;br & gt; Deluxe gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Fiona Boyes, guitars, vocals & lt;br & gt; Jimi Bott, drums, percussion & lt;br & gt; Denny Croy, bass & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. They finally found a production chain that allows them to produce LPs to meet their high standards and satisfy their customers' demands, who have been waiting for these LPs for a long time! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Assembling the Team & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Disc mastering is done at half-speed to insure maximum accuracy. Tamblyn (Tam) Henderson deserves special recognition for identifying the value of this unique production feature and reintroducing it with the new Mastercuts. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Note: & lt;/b & gt;Half-speed Mastering involves a capturing process in which the original recording master is played back at exactly half of the recorded speed. A sequenced cutting lathe is then timed at exactly half of the playback speed. This process allows twice as much time to carve a groove that accurately represents the sound on the master tape. Half-speed mastering allows for cleaner reproduction and also permits extended high frequency response, extending into the ultrasonic region. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 200g Vinyl - First LP Edition & lt;br & gt; Half-speed Mastered & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Quality Record Pressings & lt;br & gt; Gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; A Prof. Johnson Recording & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Chad Shelton, tenor (Orgiastic Dance) & lt;br & gt; Minnesota Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Eiji Oue & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936) & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;br & gt; The Pines of Rome & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Minoru Nojima Nojima Plays Liszt Half-Speed Mastered 45rpm 180g 2LP (Vinyl)
& lt;b & gt; & lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt;Half-Speed Mastered 45rpm 180g Virgin Vinyl Double LP! Pressed at Quality Record Pressings! & lt;br & gt; Minoru Nojima's First American Recording! & lt;/font & gt; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; A great gem from the Reference Recordings catalog, now released for the first time as a 45 rpm 2LP set, half-speed mastered. Nojima Plays Liszt (RM-2516) is pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl from Quality Record Pressings, and packaged in a beautiful old-style gatefold jacket. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Anticipating the judgment of history is no doubt presumptuous, but to hear Minoru Nojima is to find irresistible the idea that here is a pianist destined to join the pantheon of keyboard immortals. Nojima has a technique that invites comparison with the most dazzling of the great piano virtuosi, past or present. Even more, he has a depth of musical expressiveness that one can relate only to the spiritual, to music as an almost religious experience. His playing, once heard, is literally unforgettable. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Given Nojima's artist greatness - and to my mind that is unarguable - it is strange that he is not yet widely known to the American musical pubic, although his reputation is high among American pianists. The reason for his limited public exposure has been his reluctance up to now to make recordings. Fortunately, those who have not had the privilege of hearing Nojima in concert will now have an opportunity to hear him in this, his first American recording. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Nojima Plays Liszt (RR-25) was named Best Recording of the Month by Stereo Review when it was originally released in 1988. It was described as A stunning demonstration of technique put at the service of profoundly musical ends. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Connoisseurs of great piano playing will love these performances. A reclusive cult figure who records even less often than he plays in public, Nojima is Japan's most celebrated concert pianist and a Cliburn Competition Silver Medal winner. The album includes his highly acclaimed performance of the Sonata in b minor. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & quot;Best Recording of the Month & quot; - Stereo Review, May 1988 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;As recorded by Keith Johnson, the sound is faulous, spectacular, bold, and perfect for this music. From the leaping opening of Mephisto Waltz #1, the exceptional clarity and percussive nature of Nojima's Hamburg Steinway burst from one's speakers with a veritable peacock's tail of shimmering color and 'hey, check this out!' sass. During slower passages the beauty of Nojima's romantic nature is allowed to shine, as the wide dynamics and remarkable layered overtones in the air between the notes makes for a riveting experience 'til the very end. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound, Rated 4.5/5 Music, 4.5/5 Sonics & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 45rpm & lt;br & gt; 180g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Double LP & lt;br & gt; Half-speed Mastered by Paul Stubblebine & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Quality Record Pressings & lt;br & gt; Deluxe Stoughton gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Minoru Nojima, piano & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Franz Liszt (1811-1886) & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Mephisto Waltz (Liszt), Night On Bald Mountain (Mussorgsky), Tam O'Shanter (Arnold) and many more are collected in an explosive witches' brew! Eiji Oue conducts the Minnesota Orchestra with violin solos by Jorja Fleezanis. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;...should be listened to with caution by anyone with a heart condition. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; -Paul Festa, Salon & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Enjoy equally sensational sonics in a disc of daemonic influences, including Liszt's serious Mephisto Waltz and Dukas's comic masterpiece The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Oue is a born showman, and the orchestra is certainly willing - the dramatic ending to Franck's Le Chausseur Maudit packed full of virtuosity, while the brass is superb in Malcolm Arnold's Tam O'Shanter. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; -David Denton, The Yorkshire Post & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; For many years, RR has been searching the world over for the best possible vinyl mastering, plating and pressing facilities so they could re-enter the LP market. They now have a production chain that allow them to produce LPs to meet their high standards and satisfy their customers' demands, who have been waiting for these LPs for a long time! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Assembling the Team & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Disc mastering is done at half-speed to insure maximum accuracy. The lathe system has custom electronics by Nelson Pass. The simple signal path contains no compression, equalization or unnecessary circuitry. RR Chief Engineer and Technical Director, & quot;Prof. & quot; Keith Johnson consulted on the design of the system and helped with the rebuilding of the lathe and electronics, which is owned and operated by long-time mastering expert Paul Stubblebine. & quot;Prof. & quot; Johnson has pronounced it equal to the challenge of our master tapes! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Once successful results were achieved in disc mastering, Reference Recordings faced the difficult task of choosing the best plating and pressing facility to manufacture the discs. Fortunately, the new Quality Record Pressings plant in Salina, Kansas was coming on line, and they felt that waiting for this plant to open was well worth it. A crack team of experts was assembled to design and run the plant, employing many unique techniques and features that clearly set QRP apart from all other pressing plants. The 200-gram deluxe vinyl pressings from QRP are truly exceptional. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Multiple Configurations for Reference Mastercuts & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Depending on program lengths, some releases are cut at 45 rpm, some at 33-1/3 rpm. Some are single discs, some double. All feature deluxe gate-fold jackets crafted by Stoughton Printing . An unusual feature of new RR masterings is called the & quot;FDS finish & quot;: the end of each side will have a 30-second band of silent grooves before the & quot;pull-away. & quot; No one today uses a record changer, and the silent grooves allow time to lift the arm before the always-somewhat-noisy tie-off. (Some 1950s vintage Capitol Full Dimensional Sound pressings sported this feature.) RR founder, J. Tamblyn (Tam) Henderson deserves special recognition for identifying the value of this unique production feature and reintroducing it with the new Mastercuts. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Note: & lt;/b & gt; Half-speed Mastering involves a capturing process in which the original recording master is played back at exactly half of the recorded speed. A sequenced cutting lathe is then timed at exactly half of the playback speed. This process allows twice as much time to carve a groove that accurately represents the sound on the master tape. Half-speed mastering allows for cleaner reproduction and also permits extended high frequency response, extending into the ultrasonic region. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 45rpm & lt;br & gt; 200g Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Double LP & lt;br & gt; Half-speed mastered & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Quality Record Pressings & lt;br & gt; Deluxe gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Minnesota Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Eiji Oue, conductor & lt;br & gt; Jorja Fleezanis, violin solos & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP 1 - Side A: & lt;br & gt; Franz Liszt (1811-1886) & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Recorded by Reference's Grammy-winning engineer 'Prof.' Keith O. Johnson at Skywalker Sound in Marin County, California, Break The Chain has twelve new MacLeod songs. Each is extremely personal and at the same time, universal; covering subjects topical, humorous, and soulful; from the satirical to the sublime. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The title work, Break The Chain, composed and performed with his son Jesse, focuses on breaking the cycle of family violence and abuse. A powerful concern all too many are familiar with, Doug and Jesse confront this pervasive issue directly and personally, bringing it out of the shadows. Together, they share the healing, reconciliation and peace available to all who work to prevent the cycle from repeating and to Break The Chain. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The album is co-produced by Doug MacLeod and Janice Mancuso. Bassist Denny Croy, drummer Jimi Bott and percussionist Oliver Brown join Doug in duo, trio and quartet settings. Like all 'Prof.' Johnson's sessions, Break The Chain was recorded live, in real-time, with no overdubs or effects. This premium 2LP set is sure to thrill all vinyl loving audiophiles and blues fans! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; A prolific singer, songwriter, engaging storyteller, and masterful guitarist, Doug is a perennial Blues Music Award nominee and multiple Blues Music Award winner including Acoustic Artist of the Year and Acoustic Album of the Year. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; For 41 years, REFERENCE RECORDINGS has been one of the most innovative and respected independent labels in the music business. [performed] with five assured sidemen, including his son Jesse on guitar. One topical spoken track, 'What the Blues Means To Me,' affirms life's light amid the darkness. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Downbeat Magazine & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Recorded over a four-day period in October 2016, MacLeod and co-producer Janice Mancuso eschewed the type of post-production work that erases errors and sweetens the mix. The producers even banned overdubs. Break the Chain, MacLeod asserts, reflects 'music made by humans for humans'. The music is as truthful as it is beautiful and sublime. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Stephen A. King, Living Blues & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;...an album of great music with great sound. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Jason Kennedy, HiFi+, Music 9/10, Sound 10/10 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Vintage LPs, eg, Muddy Waters' Folk Singer, have been audiophile totems for decades, but rare are new titles. MacLeod's third for Reference ticks all the boxes: higher-speed playback, 180g vinyl and half-speed mastering. It is, as ever, a lesson in the genre; like Messrs Mo', Bibb, Mahal and Cooder, MacLeod's approach to the blues is almost academic, but the set is amply electric rather than primarily acoustic. The benefit, in the context of HFN, is sound that's massive, visceral and weighty. The content? As earthy as it gets, but at times, seriously rocking. The atmosphere throughout? As open as I've ever heard. His music is redolent of his Russian homeland, and it sings long, lush melodies that define the term & quot;romantic. & quot; Everyone who knows and loves his piano concertos will enjoy these lyrical and dynamic works for orchestra. The & quot;Symphonic Dances & quot; in recent years have become one of Rachmaninoff's most-performed scores. & quot;Vocalise & quot; is one of the great classical melodies, and is hummable by everyone. Initial response from renowned reviewers is amazingly positive. Two have said this is the finest orchestral recording Reference Recordings has ever made! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;In any case, this reading is the deepest I've heard on record and while Johnson's recorded perspective is distant, the instrumental balance borders on outright perfection, the harmonic balance is equally so, and the dynamics and bass weight are staggering. If your system has the power reserves and low frequency response necessary to reproduce them, the macro dynamics and bottom end in this recording are sensational but more importantly, the string sound is sensation and the profusion of orchestral colors remarkable. The sense of being in the hall (well back of course) and hearing it live is palpable. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Michael Fremer, www.musicangle.com, Music 10/11, Sound 10/11 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 200g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; Half-speed Mastered by Paul Stubblebine & lt;br & gt; Pressed at Quality Record Pressings & lt;br & gt; Deluxe Stoughton gatefold jacket & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Minnesota Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Eiji Oue, conductor & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) & lt;br & gt; Symphonic Dances & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Johnson & lt;/strong & gt; and & lt;strong & gt;Sean Royce Martin & lt;/strong & gt;. & lt;p & gt;Praise for the SACD: & lt;/p & gt;
& lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt; & quot;...a landmark recording, one that is destined to become the new standard for this work. And if you don't know the Rachmaninoff 'All-Night Vigil ' yet, THIS is the recording you should get to begin your acquaintance. You will have to wait a long time before something better comes along! & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; - Musica Russica & lt;/p & gt;
& lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt; & quot;Such a superlative performance requires an equally brilliant recording...The sheer beauty . . . is breathtaking, you feel surrounded by the glory of the chorus. & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; - HRAudio.net & lt;/p & gt;
& lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt; & quot;As I listened, I was again and again reminded of Sveshnikov's benchmark recording [1965]. The musical virtuosity never overshadows the worship conveyed in the text, but rather augments it. The quality of the recording itself is luxuriant . . . a bass section that is virtually unmatched . . . I should add that the fifty-two page booklet that comes with the recording is delightful. To me Jermihov's recording now stands alongside Sveshnikov's as its equal. & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; - Oktavism.com & lt;/p & gt;
& lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt; & quot;The combined choirs attain a sound that is rare outside of Russia, a rich bass-centered sonority. The choir's blend and pitch are outstanding. ...an authentic Russian sound . . . ...it would be hard to beat the current recording. Recommended! & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; - Fanfare & lt;/p & gt;
& lt;p & gt; & lt;strong & gt; & quot;For those who have never heard Rachmaninoff's 'All-Night Vigil' in an exemplary performance, this is a superlative recording of some of the superlative music in the entire history of the art. It is beyond glorious. & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; - The Buffalo News & lt;/p & gt;
