Gripping, Personal & amp; Powerful! Rich Storytelling! A Demanding Breakthrough! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Almost all of Isbell's family, except his parents, were musicians, and his father was an avid music listener. After some work as a songwriter, in 2001, Isbell joined the rock band Drive-By Truckers while they toured in support of their album Southern Rock Opera. Isbell recorded and wrote with the Truckers for their next three albums, and for most of this time was married to Shonna Tucker, who joined the band as a bassist after Isbell. The two later divorced. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; On April 5, 2007, Isbell announced that he was no longer a member of Drive-By Truckers. The following day, Patterson Hood confirmed the break on the band's official site. In his letter to the fans, Hood described the parting of ways as & quot;amicable & quot; and expressed the hope that fans would continue to support Drive-By Truckers as well as Jason's solo efforts. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Jason Isbell released his first solo album, Sirens of the Ditch, on July 10, 2007. Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit's eponymous album was released on February 17, 2009, on Lightning Rod Records. Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit is Isbell's second solo release and his first release with his band The 400 Unit. They released their second album, Here We Rest, on April 12, 2011, on Lightning Rod Records. The album was produced and recorded by the band themselves. In the Spring 2012, Isbell supported singer-songwriter Ryan Adams on the latter's acoustic European tour. Southeastern is Jason's fourth studio album. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Jason Isbell was established as a force when his old band, Drive-By Truckers, made a name for itself years ago. Unfortunately, his rise accompanied a descent into addiction. He battled it for years before carefully turning over a new leaf — a struggle and pursuit he chronicles beautifully on his new solo album, Southeastern. There, Isbell sheds a few layers of clothing and skin in order to bare an earnest, sober soul. Part repentance, part damn good songwriting, the disc doesn't lack high points. But 'Live Oak' is where the complexity of surmounting addiction comes to a head. The opening lines alone are enough to slay: 'There's a man who walks beside me and he's who I used to be / I wonder if she sees him and confuses him with me.' & quot; & lt;/b & gt;- Kim Ruehl, NPR, Heavy Rotation: 10 Songs Public Radio Can't Stop Playing & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;To his considerable credit, Isbell has very little interest in recounting his long fall or his darkest moments. This album doesn’t wallow in alcoholic squalor; its real subject is not what it means to hit rock bottom, but what happens after you pick yourself up... Isbell the storyteller knows this is rich subject matter, as the day-to-day conflict of not taking that next drink or not falling back into old ways proves much more compelling and humanizing than the non-conflict of simply bottoming out. That approach makes Southeastern his most gripping and his most personal album to date... As a storyteller, he has a generous empathy toward the people inhabiting his songs, most of whom display a hard-won humanity despite the extremes of their situations... Southeastern is easily Isbell’s best solo album-- his most richly conceived and generously written. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Stephen M. Deusner, Pitchfork, Rated 7.7 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Each of Isbell's solo records has made mincemeat of its predecessor, and the same goes for this one, his fourth since 2007's messy divorce from both Southern-rock icons Drive-By Truckers and their bassist, Shonna Tucker; it's also his first since sobering up and marrying Texas singer/fiddler Amanda Shires. That's a lot of emotional freight, and the result courses through these songs with excitement for new love and regret for past misdeeds... Isbell is among the finest lyricists working today, excelling at wordplay in the purest sense of the term, finding the music in language, how it sounds and flows and fits within the surrounding sounds.. It's the little details that ring truest, one true line after another. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - David Menconi, SPIN, Rated 8/10 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;This album is harrowing and not for the timid, but those who stick with it will be treated to a truthful, moving journey and a master class in songwriting to boot... The absence of the 400 Unit means that Isbell is sticking mainly to acoustic guitars here, with the occasional fiddle (provided by wife Amanda Shires) or slide guitar adding atmosphere... The versatility displayed on the album, produced by David Cobb, is stunning. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Jim Beviglia, American Songwriter, Rated 4.5/5 Stars & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;The record, which evokes powerful and intimate classics like Bruce Springsteen’s 'Tunnel of Love' and Rosanne Cash’s 'Interiors,' is a breakthrough for Isbell — prickly with loss, forgiveness, newfound sobriety and second chances... & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Dwight Garner, New York Times & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;I'll tell you how much I love these people: I once drove all the way to Montana to see them play. It was tremendous. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - David Letterman & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt;• 180 Gram Virgin Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Gatefold Jacket & lt;br & gt; • Includes Limited Time Free Download & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt;Jason Isbell, vocals, guitar & lt;br & gt; Dave Cobb, percussion & lt;br & gt; Brian Allen, bass & lt;br & gt; Derry Deborja, keyboards, mellotron & lt;br & gt; Chad Gamble, drums & lt;br & gt; Paul Griffiths, drums & lt;br & gt; Will Johnson, vocals & lt;br & gt; Kim Richey, vocals & lt;br & gt; Amanda Isbell Shires, fiddle, vocals & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt;1. Isbell was the subject of stories in outlets ranging from The New York Times Magazine and Wall Street Journal to NPR's All Things Considered and Fresh Air with Terry Gross. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Jason Isbell & amp; The 400 Unit made multiple television appearances, including The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan and Austin City Limits. Isbell won Artist of the Year, Song of the Year ( & quot;Cover Me Up & quot;) and Album of the Year at the 2014 Americana Music Awards. At David Letterman's personal request, Jason and his wife, Amanda Shires performed on one of the last episodes of The Late Show in April 2015. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Something More Than Free makes clear Southeastern was no fluke; the insights Isbell gained as a songwriter are just as evident on these 11 songs, and as a performer he's attained a nuanced maturity that demonstrates how far he's come since his days with the Drive-By Truckers (where he already sounded like a prodigy), but without a hint of pretension. Southeastern was a triumph from a talented songwriter and vocalist who stepped up to a new level; Something More Than Free shows Jason Isbell knows he just got there, and is still making use of that hard-won knowledge -- it confirms his status as a major artist. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; -Mark Deming, allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Double LP & lt;br & gt; • Gatefold Jacket & lt;br & gt; • Album Download Inside & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; LP 1 - Side 1: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. He then released his first album with his band the 400 Unit (titled Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit) in 2009. They released their second album, Here We Rest, in 2011. The album was produced and recorded by the band themselves. Isbell's 2013 celebrated breakthrough solo album Southeastern received overwhelming support from the press and went on to sell over 150,000 copies. In 2015 Isbell released Something More Than Free, which won the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Americana Album. The song & quot;24 Frames & quot; from the album won the Grammy Award for Best American Roots Song, and Rolling Stone rated the album seventh on its list of 50 Best Albums of 2105. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The Nashville Sound is the first official Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit album since 2011’s Here We Rest. The 400 Unit features Derry deBorja (keyboards), Chad Gamble (drums), Jimbo Hart (bass), Amanda Shires (fiddle) and Sadler Vaden (guitar). Recorded at Nashville's legendary RCA Studio A, The Nashville Sound was produced by Grammy Award-winner Dave Cobb, who also produced Southeastern and Something More Than Free. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;The title of the latest album by Jason Isbell and his Alabama-based wrecking crew The 400 Unit is both promise and provocation. It's partly a shot across the bow of Music City’s current hitmakers, but it's also Isbell's solemn vow that he's going to do his damnedest to live up to the city's legendary songwriters and performers, the ones who put authenticity and integrity before flash and artifice. Those forebears should be proud that they have someone like Isbell carrying on their tradition, because The Nashville Sound is another triumph in his incredible hot streak. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Jim Beviglia, American Songwriter & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;This is a set of outstanding songs that registers as the work of a great band, as well as the craft of a world-class tunesmith. Isbell was already a gifted artist when he first gained public visibility with the Drive-By Truckers, but The Nashville Sound finds him growing from strength to strength, and it reaffirms his place as one of the best and most emotionally affecting artists working in roots music today. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Mark Deming, allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;The intoxicating thing about this album is that the songs are able to transcend the painful realities of race, class and personal politics with an honest and hopeful faith in the goodness of people, the people he knows so well...Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are the freshest sound to emerge from the nexus of folk and country in many years. Their music is articulate and rocking, simple and yet able to present complex ideas; rooted in the past with their eyes and hearts fixed firmly on the future. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Fergus Hambleton, Spill Magazine & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;'I ain't fighting with you down in the ditch, I'll meet you up here on the road,' sings Jason Isbell on 'Hope the High Road,' the declaration of unyielding perseverance that ties together his sixth studio album, a 10-track Americana jewel. Indeed, Isbell elevates relationships ('If We Were Vampires'), discussions about privilege ('White Man's World') and the art of songwriting itself to a higher plane on The Nashville Sound. But the LP addresses nationwide blue-collar hardships, from the trap of addiction ('Cumberland Gap') to crushed dreams ('Tupelo'), proving Isbell is a voice for all people, not just the ones in the South. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Rolling Stone, 50 Best Albums of 2017 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Gatefold Jacket & lt;br & gt; • Includes Limited Time Album Download & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. The song & quot;Alabama Pines & quot; from the album won Song Of The Year at the 2012 Americana Music Awards. After Here We Rest, Isbell went on to release two solo albums - Southeastern and Something More Than Free - before reuniting with the 400 Unit on 2017's The Nashville Sound, which won the Grammy award for Best Americana Album and the Grammy for Best American Roots Song for & quot;If We Were Vampires & quot;. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;www.allmusic.com & quot; & gt; Like the two albums before it, Here We Rest shines a light on Jason Isbell's softer side, illuminating the sad-faced country tunes and bluesy ballads that rarely popped up during his time with Drive-By Truckers. Relying on the acoustic guitar as much as its electric cousin -- and allowing his four-piece band, the 400 Unit, to flesh things out with organ, fiddle, backup harmonies, and shuffling rhythms -- he keeps things loose and rugged, with songs like 'Codeine' and 'Daisy Mae' standing out as particular highlights. Here We Rest may not be beer-drinking music, at least not in the same way the Drive-By Truckers albums are beer-drinking music, but it's as sharply literate as some of Patterson Hood's best work -- and listeners who focus on Isbell's lyrics may find themselves weeping into their whiskeys as early as the second track. & lt;footer & gt;- AllMusic & lt;/footer & gt; & lt;/blockquote & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;features & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Features & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ul & gt; & lt;li & gt;180g Vinyl LP & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Remixed by Dave Cobb in 2019 & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Remastered by Pete Lyman in 2019 & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Gatefold jacket & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited time digital download & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ul & gt; & lt;/section & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;selections & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Selections & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side A: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Alabama Pines & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Go It Alone & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;We've Met & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Codeine & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Stopping By & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side B: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Daisy Mae & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Ballad Of Nobeard & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Never Could Believe & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Heart On A String & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Save It For Sunday & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Tour Of Duty & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;/section & gt;

Remixed and remastered in 2019. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;Americana roots rocker Jason Isbell and his band the 400 Unit released their first album as a group in 2009. Formerly a member of the southern rock band Drive-By Truckers, Isbell went on to release 2 more albums with the 400 Unit, 2011's Here We Rest and 2017's The Nashville Sound, which won the Grammy award for Best Americana Album and the Grammy for Best American Roots Song for & quot;If We Were Vampires & quot;. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;AllMusic & quot; & gt; Credited to Isbell and his new backing band, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit finds the songwriter reprising the same formula showcased on 2007's Sirens of the Ditch: a mix of Southern rock and rootsy, melancholic country-soul that manages to both elevate and commiserate during its 52 minutes. The result may be fairly similar to Sirens' sound, but 400 Unit marks Isbell's final move away from the Truckers, whose influence permeated Sirens in its production (helmed by Patterson Hood) and host of backing musicians (including Shonna Tucker, DBT's bassist and Isbell's former wife). Here, Isbell and his four bandmates close the studio doors to outside help, allowing several horn players to make a cameo on 'No Choice in the Matter' but essentially playing everything else themselves. The result is a smart and tasteful record that sees Isbell training his songwriting eye on subjects of wartime romance, memory, and dead-end small towns. Just barely out of his twenties, he writes with the well-worn weariness of someone twice his age, but Isbell's youth nevertheless breathes energy into a formula that's been revisited by many Southern-born songwriters before. & lt;footer & gt;- AllMusic & lt;/footer & gt; & lt;/blockquote & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;features & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Features & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;ul & gt; & lt;li & gt;180g Vinyl & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Double LP & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Available on vinyl for the first time in 10 years & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Remixed by Dave Cobb in 2019 & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Remastered by Pete Lyman in 2019 & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Gatefold jacket & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Limited time digital download & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ul & gt; & lt;/section & gt; & lt;section id= & quot;selections & quot; & gt; & lt;h3 & gt;Selections & lt;/h3 & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side A: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Seven-Mile Island & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Sunstroke & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Good & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side B: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Cigarettes And Wine & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;However Long & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side C: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Blue & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;No Choice In The Matter & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Soldiers Get Strange & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;h4 & gt;Side D: & lt;/h4 & gt; & lt;ol & gt; & lt;li & gt;Streetlights & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;The Last Song I Will Write & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;When My Baby's Beside Me & lt;/li & gt; & lt;li & gt;Coda & lt;/li & gt; & lt;/ol & gt; & lt;/section & gt;

The new album also includes background vocals from special guests David Crosby (Crosby, Stills & amp; Nash, the Byrds) and Jay Buchanan (Rival Sons). Of the release, Isbell shares, & lt;strong & gt; & quot;There are a lot of ghosts on this album. Sometimes the songs are about the ghosts of people who aren't around anymore, but they're also about who I used to be, the ghost of myself. I found myself writing songs that I wanted to write fifteen years ago, but in those days, I hadn't written enough songs to know how to do it yet. Just now have I been able to pull it off to my own satisfaction. In that sense it's a reunion with the me I was back then. & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt;Originally from Green Hill, Alabama and currently based in Nashville, Isbell is a four-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist and is widely renowned as one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. Garnering immense critical acclaim throughout his career, NPR Music calls him, & lt;strong & gt; & quot;one of the finest singer-songwriters working at the intersection of folk, country and rock today, & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; and continues, & lt;strong & gt; & quot;his songs have an exquisite, rawboned realism and deeply embedded class-consciousness, & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; while American Songwriter declares, & lt;strong & gt; & quot;There's no better songwriter on the planet at this moment, no one operating with the same depth, eloquence or feeling & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; and USA Today proclaims, & lt;strong & gt; & quot;he has developed into one of the great American songwriters...in a world where most pop songs are lies, Isbell is determined to find truth. & quot; & lt;/strong & gt; & lt;/p & gt; & lt;p & gt; Since the release of his breakthrough solo album, Southeastern, in 2013, Isbell has won four GRAMMY Awards, nine Americana Music Association Awards and was selected as the Country Music Hall of Fame & amp; Museum's official 2017 Artist-in-Residence. & lt;/p & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;www.analogplanet.com & quot; & gt; Reunions is a worthwhile slow burn of an album. It's sonically delicate; even when it's rocking. The first few plays it's easy to miss the album's thoughtfulness and attention to detail. However, like a good puzzle, it's worth taking the time to make Reunions' pieces fit. Jason Isbell might just be a genuine modern country legend in the making. & lt;footer & gt; -Evan Toth, Analog Planet, Music 9/11, Sound 9/11 & lt;/footer & gt; & lt;/blockquote & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;quote source & quot; & gt; Isbell is a gifted lyricist and melodist, and these songs are full of hooks. & lt;footer & gt; -Jim Austin, Stereophile, September 2020 & lt;/footer & gt; & lt;/blockquote & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;www.consequenceofsound.net & quot; & gt; Isbell's growth as a solo artist has been remarkably steady, and you can hear him pushing himself with each new effort. On Reunions, it perhaps for the first time sounds truly effortless. Not to say there isn't clear, loving labor in the songwriting, only that there's a sense it's materializing more naturally than ever before. It's what makes tracks like the mournful remembrance of 'Only Children' feel so open and the gauntlet toss of 'Be Afraid' a daring challenge rather than pomposity. Unanswered questions on standout single 'What've I Done to Help' work simultaneously as self-admonishing introspection and keen moral commentary. This is what happens when a gifted artist is confident enough in their identity and craft that the songs come through them, not to them. And Isbell has the perspective not to question it, which allows Reunions to contain his most powerful songs to date. & lt;footer & gt; -Ben Kaye, Consequence of Sound Top 50 Albums Of 2020 - Rated 11/50 & lt;/footer & gt; & lt;/blockquote & gt; & lt;blockquote cite= & quot;www.pastemagazine.com & quot; & gt; Isbell has both smarts and perspective, and each seems to increase a little bit more from one album to the next. He's always been an empathetic songwriter with a distinctive willingness to see the world from a point of view other than his own. Like any good storyteller, Isbell creates characters, and he has a storyteller's ability to bring them to life by infusing them with enough of his own experiences, be it sobriety or fatherhood, to make their struggles and small triumphs resonate. & lt;footer & gt; -Eric R.
