In February 1968, Chrysler took the performance philosophy of & ldquo;small car, big engine & rdquo; to whole a new level. The company told Dodge dealerships across the country that it would sell race-ready factory-built dragsters using the smallest coupe in the fleet, the Dodge Dart. The small car would be equipped with the biggest motor in the Mopar arsenal, and the result was the remarkable Super Stock Dodge Dart. A purpose-built dragster strictly for the track. Gene "the Snowman" Snow will remain in the history books as the first Funny Car driver to break the 200-mph barrier with a 200.88 clocking on Aug. 17, 1968, and the first Top Fuel driver to break the four-second barrier at an NHRA national event, Oct. 6, 1988.

Because the cars from Shelby American have always been desirable rides, their biographies are as varied as their original owners. Shelby Mustangs and two-seat Cobras corralled buyers from all walks of life, from the blue-collar middle class to the affluent. However, Dave Steine's '65 Shelby GT350 isn't your typical rural Wisconsin Slippery's Tavern big fish story. Shelby American scheduled this GT350 for delivery via air freight to Romy Hammes Ford in South Bend, Indiana. Based on what we know about Trans World Airlines in 1965, Dave's GT350 was loaded onto a Boeing 707-331F freighter at the Los Angeles International Airport and jetted across the continent. That's quite a distinction when you consider how many Mustangs were shipped via rail and truck. After this GT350 was delivered to the dealership, the buyer backed out of the deal. The TWA pilot who flew the car from Los Angeles to Indiana got word of this turn of events and decided to buy the car from Hi-Performance Motors, Shelby's own dealership in Southern California. So the car was air freighted back to Los Angeles for delivery to the pilot.Where most Shelby Mustangs were thrashed and trashed on road courses and isolated stretches of highway, this one enjoyed 20 years of meticulous care until it was sold to Jim Bridges in--ironically--Shelby, North Carolina. It was there this car sat in a climate-controlled environment for another 22 years. Dave Steine eventually bought the GT350 from another highly respected Ford collector, Jacky Jones.

Les Ritchey, a legendary figure in the world of drag racing, played a pivotal role in the development of the Ford A/Factory Experimental A/FX Mustang. To capitalize on the growing popularity of drag racing, Ford authorized the production of several stock-appearing NHRA-legal Mustangs. These cars were meant to compete in the Factory Experimental (A/FX) class. The partnership between Les and Ronda peaked in 1965, the SOHC 427-cid Ford Mustang that ran mid-10s in A/FX form. However, the Mopar drivers decided to hit the match race trail for no-holds-barred racing with their altered-wheelbase Dodge and Plymouth entries that had been outlawed for A/FX competition, which was the start of the Funny Car revolution. By switching to fuel injection, nitromethane, and later superchargers, they began to run in the nine-second zone and soon dipped into the eights, which overshadowed the 10-second performances of the legal A/FX cars such as Ronda & rsquo;s Mustang.

Phil Bonner had a relatively short career in the world of top level drag racing but his impact is still felt today and fans of the blue oval brand still herald Bonner as one of the best that ever strapped himself into a full bodied car. His career began like many did down south in the 1950s by hitting strips in the car he drove around every day. Another very historically significant Pontiac, this is one of the last 1971 GTO Judges produced of the 357 cars built. Pontiac introduced the 455 HO rated at 335 HP at 4,800 RPM and 480 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 RPM on the strength of the improved breathing inherent in its Ram Air IV round-port heads, 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust. The GTO and its Judge variant were more attractive machines if one & rsquo;s tastes leaned toward the more daring, the Judge adding bold graphic excitement to the GTO & rsquo;s restyled nose treatment and flared fender brows. Quezal Gold metallic paint and contrasting Judge emblems and graphics adorn this GTO, which is one of the last Judges known to have been built in the model & rsquo;s history.

Make no mistake, 1970 Hemi & lsquo;Cudas are rare. Plymouth made just 652 Hardtops total to be exact. Most customers had one thing in mind: Going really, really fast in a straight line, either from one stoplight to the next or perhaps 1320 feet at a time. Only 18 people in 1970 wanted their Hemi & lsquo;Cuda to put a little more wind in their hair. By the late 1970s Hemi convertibles were roughly $10,000 cars. In the mid-1980s a few sold in the $25,000 range. By 1990 they had just tipped into six-figure territory. And at the beginning of the 2000's a few traded in the half million dollar range. Serious money to be sure.

During the 2023 season, Chase Briscoe only drove a midget three times. The full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver kicked off 2024 with a B main appearance at the Chili Bowl National in January. Carson Macedo, born May 26, 1996, is a fourth-generation American sprint car driver from California. At the young age of five years old, he began his career racing 100cc junior sprints. At only 15 years old had the opportunity to pilot a winged sprint car, where he picked up his first career win. During his time driving midgets, he was crowned the 2016 USAC Indiana Midget champion. During his first full-time season running with the World of Outlaws, he picked up four wins, slotting him sixth in the points championship.

In 1968 six special paint colors appeared on Shelbys. They were known by their special "WT" identification code number. The total production number of these special WT paint cars was just 159 across all six paint variations. These cars were sold as part of Ford's "Summer Sales Promotion". The WT cars were offered on both the GT500KR and GT350 models and were only available with black or saddle interiors. The rarity of these cars is increased because they could not be ordered from Shelby. Big John purchased a brand-new 1961 model and immediately turned it into one of the hottest Vettes in history. He won his class at the first Winternationals in 1961, setting an AA/SP class speed record of 109.96 mph in the process. John wasn & rsquo;t done with the #26 Vette by a long shot, after some modifications, he returned to the 1962 Winternationals. With a different block mounted with a Hilborn injector, a GMC 4-71 blower and lots of Isky innards, the team came back to break 129 mph and 11 seconds. e.t. in the Modified Sports class.
