This kit consists of a one-transistor Colpitts Crystal Oscillator and a one-transistor, emitter-follower output buffer/amplifier. You get all the parts you see, including the PCB, plus a schematic and several different crystals to experiment with. It runs off of a 9-volt battery which is not included. This oscillator can deliver up to a 3-volt signal into 100 Ohms: the higher the frequency, the lower the output amplitude. It has been tested with crystals from 3MHz to 50MHz.
This kit is also offered with a "Built & Tested" option for those that do not want to build the kit themselves.
The PCB is approx 3.0" x 1.5", .062" thick, FR-4 with plated Thru-Holes. You not only get to build this great circuit, but it can also be used as a building block for home-made receivers and transmitters. This can also be used as a crystal tester by plugging in crystals instead of soldering them in.
Below is a detailed introduction to component identification and kit assembly.
