The JodyJazz DV NY Baritone Saxophone Mouthpiece is designed for traditional jazz. It has a deep chamber which produces a fat, dark sound with plenty of low end. Saxophone players using a vintage mouthpiece will appreciate the similar tone of their vintage with the advantage of a modern feel. The DV NY is less stuffy and easier to play than many vintage mouthpieces. It also produces crisp articulation even when moving quickly from high to low notes. This mouthpiece comes with cap, ligature and pouch. The DV NY was designed with three major differences from most mouthpieces.
The first creates the most efficient mouthpiece possible, and to achieve this feat Golden Section Proportions, or Phi Proportions, are used between the facing, bore and chamber. These same proportions are found in Stradivarius Violins, the Nautilus shell, and Ancient Pyramids. The result is a sound with increased harmonics and projection using the same amount of air compared to other mouthpieces. The next feature is the use of a secondary window to push more sound through the horn. It works by bouncing sound waves off a vibrating reed instead of a solid piece of metal.
This creates an effect similar to a swinging bat hitting baseball. The moving sound wave hits the vibrating reed and propels it through the saxophone. The third feature is a new facing curve. This new curve prevents dead spots on the reed which makes the saxophone respond evenly through the entire range. What Does The DV NY Do?
