Warren "Storm" Schexnider carved out a name for himself in the annals of indigenous music of south Louisiana and southeast Texas, where he was dubbed the "Godfather of Swamp Pop" for hits such as "The Prisoner's Song," "Lord, I Need Somebody Bad Tonight," "Mama, Mama, Mama" and many more. He continues to blaze a path for younger musicians -- you could say the universe had a plan, resulting in a new APO Records release Taking the World, by Storm -- reintroducing Warren to devoted fans and creating a legion of new followers.

At age 82 when this album was recorded in Louisiana in March 2019, Warren has been creating music for more than 70 years. Throughout his career he's performed with some of America's brightest musical stars -- Willie Nelson, Ray Price, John Fogerty, Hank Williams, Jr., Elvis Presley -- and more! He's recorded on innumerable records, both on his own as a vocalist/musician, and as a studio musician on drums. His musical influences are the New Orleans-style rhythm and blues, country and western, and traditional French Louisiana melodies. He's been inducted into both the Louisiana and Texas Music Hall of Fame. His fame and reputation led singer-musician Yvette Landry, through a chance meeting with Warren at one of her gigs, to pursue publishing a book about his career. From that book arose this album, recorded straight to 2-track tape at Dockside Studio, "just like he did in his early days," Yvette says. She sings with Warren on a newly-recorded version of "Mama, Mama, Mama." Noted guest performers include vocalist Marc Broussard (son of Boogie Kings guitarist and Louisiana Hall of Fame member Ted Broussard), and the one-and-only John Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival) singing background for Warren, who does a take on Fogerty's hit " "Long As I Can See The Light." One of Acoustic Sounds/APO Records CEO Chad Kassem's personal favorites, Taking the World, by Storm is an LP gem, one that truly impresses.

Mr. Storm (or Mr. Schexnider, however you wish to call him) does not sound like an 82 year old. No way. He owns the mournful, inspirational Fogerty penned tune and not even Fogerty's own inserted verse diminishes (or matches) the power of the old guy's performance. Think Fats Domino and you get much of the picture. This is the real stuff... Now's the time for music that lifts the spirits and here's some that does just that! Mr. Schexnider is in fine voice here, soaring to hit all of the high notes and clearly enjoying the adulation coming from all of the participants... Live to 2 track analog sound pleases the ears at low levels and no matter how loud you crank it. Go high, go low, have a party with this album of honest music making.
