What Now is the second studio album by American indie pop duo Sylvan Esso, made up of singer Amelia Meath and producer Nick Sanborn, released on April 28, 2017, by Loma Vista Recordings. The album spawned three singles -- "Radio", "Kick Jump Twist" and "Die Young", and was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 60th annual Grammy Awards.

"The sophomore album from the electronic pop duo offers a biting, withering take on pop music, full of crisp humor while still finding real moments of tenderness." - Pitchfork

"What Now is as apt a name for a follow-up to a breakout album as any, although, knowing Meath and Sanborn’s attitude and sense of humor, it could also be a kind of taunt — the thing you say when you’ve just proved someone wrong. It swings between biting and sublime, with occasional moments of triteness; but when Meath and Sanborn get it right, they get it very, very right. In a live setting, even the trite ones will bang, and maybe that’s all you can really ask." - Consequence of Sound

"What Now finds the band questioning the confines of electronic pop music, deconstructing traditional notions of beat and melody with intricacy and ingenuity. The rhythm sections and synths have been crafted with a newfound appreciation for sound, but with unexpected, childlike curiosity. The lyrics retain a relatable amount of simplicity, yet they also portray an intimate exploration of self-worth and image. Sylvan Esso knew they had a good thing going, and succeeded at reworking and redefining what they’d already done." - Spin

"As far as difficult second albums go, Sylvan Esso's sophomore effort sounds anything but, as evidenced by the assured single 'Kick Jump Twist.' It's a bombastic cut complete with bleeping, burping, and bellowing synths that rise and fall in layers, underpinned by Amelia Meath's rhythmic vocal. In short, it's the kind of pop banger that's likely to satisfyingly answer the anticipation that has built since their last release, and no doubt seduce a number of new fans to their particular blend of indie pop... What Now is less eccentrically atmospheric than its predecessor, but their boisterous energy is intoxicating enough to win you over, and their sense of fun is palpable." - AllMusic
