His recorded legacy is considerable but his inaugural recordings for EMI remain special for capturing in superb stereo his artistry at the start of his international career. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; In the original review in The Gramophone of July 1962, T.H. remarked that it was & quot;a record that will certainly enhance his reputation the word over...the intellect in control of the emotions, allied to a really remarkable technique, brings nobility, to the first movement in particular, that is rare and very affecting. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Recorded 29-31 January 1962, No.1 Studio, Abbey Road, London. Recording Producer: Peter Andry & amp; Ronald Kinloch Anderson. Balance Engineer: Neville Boyling & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS82 lathe fed an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional ‘advance’ playback head, making the cut a totally analogue process. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Pressed on 180g vinyl to audiophile standards using the original EMI presses by The Vinyl Factory in Hayes, England. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Hi-Q Records Supercuts 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original EMI stereo analogue master tapes & lt;br & gt; • Superior Audiophile Pressing & lt;br & gt; • Features original album artwork & lt;br & gt; • Made in England & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; John Ogdon, piano & lt;br & gt; The Philharmonia Orchestra & lt;br & gt; John Pritchard, conductor & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Rachmaninov (1873-1943) & lt;br & gt; Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. 1st Movement: Allegro moderato & lt;br & gt; 2. 2nd Movement: Adagio sostenuto & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Side B: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. 3rd Movement: Allegro scherzando & lt;br & gt; 2. In a career that only lasted 10 years, he recorded over 50 albums, presented his own eclectic BBC Radio 3 programme Pied Piper, and television programmes on both BBC and ITV. Suffering from depression, his life was tragically cut short by his own hand in 1976 at the age of 33. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Recorded on October 1-4, 1973 at No.1 Studio, Abbey Road, London with legendary producer Christopher Bishop and engineer Stuart Eltham. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Anyone who admires the skill and the vivacious musicianship of David Munrow ought to try this attractive disc. He plays the treble recorder in the Telemann and Handel items and the soprano (or descant) in the Sammartini, both with the greatest agility, with nicety of phrasing, and with a sureness of intonation all too uncommon among players of this instrument. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; -Gramophone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS82 lathe fed an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional ‘advance’ playback head, making the cut a totally analogue process. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Pressed on 180g vinyl to audiophile standards using the original EMI presses by The Vinyl Factory in Hayes, England. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Hi-Q Records Supercuts 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original EMI stereo analogue master tapes & lt;br & gt; • Superior Audiophile Pressing & lt;br & gt; • Features original album artwork & lt;br & gt; • Made in England & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; David Munrow, recorder & lt;br & gt; Academy of St. Martin-In-the-Fields & lt;br & gt; Neville Marriner, conductor & lt;br & gt; Christopher Hogwood, harpsichord & lt;br & gt; Kenneth Heath, cello & lt;br & gt; John Gray, double bass & lt;br & gt; Carmel Kaine, solo violin & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;br & gt; Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) & lt;br & gt; Suite in A Minor for treble recorder, strings and continuo & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Sir Thomas Beecham conducts the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. These performances were taped in early stereo in 1955, when the composer was still alive and many celebrations were held to mark his 90th birthday on the 8th of December 1955, including a Royal Festival Hall concert given by Beecham and the RPO. Beecham had a great affinity for Sibelius's music and was much admired by the composer and was even honored by Norway with The Order of the White Rose. Incidentally, Sir Thomas didn't have to travel far for these Abbey Road sessions: he lived a short stroll away at 31 Grove End Road, St John's Wood. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Sibelius wrote a very large mass of highly genial and attractive music. I’m thinking of all those delightful suites, symphonic poems like En saga and Pohjola’s Daughter, and that rather strange composition – very strange indeed – The Oceanides, which, incidentally, the composer has asked me to record. I don’t know why: I shall ask him one day why he asked me to do this very special thing. Of course I shall do it – naturally. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; – Sir Thomas Beecham & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; ...And with this recording he did, shortly after a 90th birthday concert for the great Finnish composer at the Royal Festival Hall on December 8th, 1955 (Sibelius’s birthday), the same year he was awarded the Order of the White Rose of Finland for conducting Sibelius. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; In the original review of the mono LP in The Gramophone of September 1957, Lionel Salter remarked that & lt;b & gt; & quot;Beecham captures the magic of this closely-knit, highly organic score... every phrase is lovingly moulded... The engineers have contributed an excellent balance and very clear tone. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; When the stereo LP was released in 1962, Salter confirmed & lt;b & gt; & quot;Beecham’s performances... are beautifully shaped and tremendously intense. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS82 lathe fed an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional ‘advance’ playback head, making the cut a totally analogue process. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Pressed on 180g vinyl to audiophile standards using the original EMI presses by The Vinyl Factory in Hayes, England. He is able and willing to lavish the same care and affection on good light music as on that of the supreme masters. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; So enthused W. A. Chislett on the 48 years old Kempe, who, by the time this recording of operatic overtures and waltzes was made, had gained a reputation as an opera conductor, having directed the Dresden Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera (succeeding Solti) and conducted at Bayreuth. He was a favourite at Covent Garden but declined the director's job. Kempe was a conductor of international repute, with long associations with the Royal Philharmonic, Zurich Tonhalle and Munich Philharmonic, as well as his last, short-lived appointment as chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Kempe died on 12 May 1976 aged 65. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; In the original December 1958 review of the mono release W. A. Chislett of the GRAMOPHONE concluded: & lt;b & gt; & quot;... This is superb in every way, warm, intimate, beautifully phrased and poised and very finely recorded. How good in particular it is to hear Lehar's charming waltz given a full dress performance complete with prelude and postlude. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; ..and on the stereo release the following August, Chislett added: & lt;b & gt; & quot;...they all sound richer and warmer in the two-channel version. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Recorded on 20-22 February 1958 at the Grosser Saal, Musikverein, Vienna. Produced by the legendary Victor Olof and engineered by Harold Davidson. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS82 lathe fed an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional ‘advance’ playback head, making the cut a totally analogue process. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Pressed on 180g vinyl to audiophile standards using the original EMI presses by The Vinyl Factory in Hayes, England. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Hi-Q Records Supercuts 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original EMI stereo analogue master tapes & lt;br & gt; • Superior Audiophile Pressing & lt;br & gt; • Features original album artwork & lt;br & gt; • Made in England & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Rudolf Kempe, conductor & lt;br & gt; Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. He first joined the Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of fifteen, and after serving in the First World War, studied philosophy at the University of Warsaw. During the 1920s his compositions were championed by Toscanini and Furtwängler, who invited Kletzki to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1925. In the second half of the twentieth century, Kletzki was a renowned conductor, especially of Mahler. In 1954 he was appointed chief conductor of the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Between 1958 and 1961, he was principal conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and from 1966 to 1970, he was the General Music Director of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. He made many recordings for EMI with the Philharmonia Orchestra during the 1950s and 1960s. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Emmy Loose (1914-1987) was an Austrian operatic soprano of Czech birth, particularly associated with soubrette roles. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Recorded April and July 1957, Kingsway Hall, London. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Hi-Q Records Supercuts 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original EMI stereo analogue master tapes & lt;br & gt; • Superior Audiophile Pressing & lt;br & gt; • Features original album artwork & lt;br & gt; • Made in England & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Emmy Loose, soprano solo (4) & lt;br & gt; Philharmonia Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Paul Kletzki, conductor & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) & lt;br & gt; Symphony No. 4 in G Major & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Bruckner’s Symphonies were relatively unknown to the record-buying public in the 1960s, when complete cycles, like Bernard Haitink’s were still in the process of being recorded. Klemperer uses the Nowak edition of 1953, based on the 1886 revision of the score and gives an idiosyncratic interpretation, with outer movements faster than you would expect from this conductor, that nonetheless preserves the architecture of symphony, captured in vintage EMI/Kingsway Hall sound. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; In the review of the stereo LP in The Gramophone of may 1965, Deryck Cooke, no less, enthused: “This is one of those rare occasions when a Bruckner symphony is presented in a single span, and the blazing climaxes seem all the more inspiring because they’re revealed as growing quite naturally out of what has gone before...Klemperer’s performance has a mighty and noble objectivity throughout.” & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Recorded 18-20 & amp; 24-26 September 1963, Kingsway Hall, London. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Hi-Q Records Supercuts 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original EMI stereo analogue master tapes & lt;br & gt; • Superior Audiophile Pressing & lt;br & gt; • Features original album artwork & lt;br & gt; • Made in England & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Philharmonia Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Otto Klemperer, conductor & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) & lt;br & gt; Symphony No. 4 in E flat Major & quot;Romantic & quot; & lt;br & gt; 1953 edition (Nowak) & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1.
