Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture; Capriccio Italien 180g 2LP (Mono & Stereo) (Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;1954 Mono & amp; 1958 Stereo Editions On 180g Double LP! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; This 2LP set celebrates the most ambitious and successful classical recording of the 1950s. In 1954, Mercury embarked on one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken by a classical label: recording Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture using the original score for orchestra augmented by church bells, cannon and brass choir. For the cannon, an authentic Napoleon-era (1761) cannon was recorded at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. & lt;b & gt;This set includes the 1954 mono and 1958 stereo editions. & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • Mono & amp; Stereo Editions & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Double LP & lt;br & gt; • Gatefold Jacket & lt;br & gt; • Limited Time Download Card & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt;Deems Taylor, spoken commentary & lt;br & gt; University of Minnesota Brass Band & lt;br & gt; Bells of the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carlilon, The Riverside Church & lt;br & gt; Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Antal Dorati & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) & lt;br & gt; LP 1 & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. & lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;180g Heavyweight Vinyl Pressed At Optimal Media In Germany! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The Old and New Worlds meet in this colorful program by the Eastman-Rochester & quot;Pops & quot; Orchestra under the baton of Frederick Fennell. Nine composers from six countries are represented in music tributes to the artistic influence of Iberia: Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla and Joaquin Turina from Spain; Ernesto Lecuona from Cuba; Jaime Texidor from Mexico; Camargo Mozart Gaurnieri and Oscar Lorenzo Fernandez from Brazil; Percy Faith from the United States; and Arthur Benjamin from Australia. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; This album was recorded in the Eastman Theatre in Rochester, New York, the home of the Eastman-Rochester & quot;Pops & quot; Orchestra. A normal concert set-up was maintained throughout the session, with three omni-directional microphones of extremely high sensitivity hung in a plane approximately 15 feet above and slightly behind the conductor's podium. The special percussion effects called for in many of the works were never allowed to overwhelm the other instruments: maracas, marimbas, bells and drums are quite distinctly etched in to the orchestral picture, providing sonorous highlights which do not at the same time blot out the rest of the instrumentation. Dramatic contrasts in dynamics abound. In & quot;Malaguena & quot;, for instance, there are powerful sections for full orchestra alternating with passages played by solo guitar with harp and marimba back-ground. & quot;Batuque & quot; opens with no more than a murmur in the bass and swells out to an awe-inspiring climax. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g heavyweight vinyl pressing & lt;br & gt; • LP pressed at Optimal Media GmbH & lt;br & gt; • Made in Germany & lt;br & gt; • Limited time download voucher included & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;br & gt; Eastman-Rochester Pops & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Frederick Fennell, conductor & lt;br & gt; Percy Faith & lt;br & gt; Ernesto Lecuona & lt;br & gt; Enrique Granados & lt;br & gt; Arthur Benjamin & lt;br & gt; Oscar Lorenzo Fernandez & lt;br & gt; Jaime Texidor & lt;br & gt; Joaquin Turina & lt;br & gt; Manuel de Falla & lt;br & gt; Camargo Mozart Gaurnieri & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;br & gt; Percy Faith (1908-1976) & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Janos Starker Dvorak & Bruch 180g LP (Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;180g Heavyweight Vinyl Pressed At Optimal Media In Germany! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Cellist Janos Starker is backed by The London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Antal Dorati for these 1960's performances of music by Dvorak, Bruch, and Tchaikovsky. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Janos Starker has found worthy fellow musicians in Antal Dorati and the London Symphony Orchestra. The conductor and soloist set a benchmark in how to work together as a team in concert in that it is less the often-lamented emulation than the interpretation, which stands in the foreground in this performance. Rather, the two protagonists commit themselves to a chamber-music-like reading, which is distinguished by the dynamically moderate intonation of the orchestra and the slender tone of the soloist throughout. An ever-welcome encore is found on side two with Bruch’s Kol Nidrei, performed with verve and a good portion of romantic, melting sweetness, which allows this evergreen to flourish. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; Why on earth didn't I know that a person could write a violoncello concerto like this? If I had known, I would have written one long ago. & quot; & lt;/b & gt;These words were spoken after a first examination of the new Cello Concerto by Antonin Dvorak. The speaker was no less than Johannes Brahms, Dvorak's long-time friend and champion, who seemed to have forgotten for the moment that he himself had only recently completed the magnificent Double Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Brahms was not the only composer who realized the many problems involved in writing a work for cello and orchestra. Although the cello has an exceptionally wide range, its more easily accessible notes lie well below the normal melodic surface of the orchestra, making it difficult to penetrate a heavy fabric of orchestral accompaniment. Besides, while a good player can perform great feats of virtuosity on the instrument, it still lacks the exciting tonal brilliance of the violin. Perhaps that is why so few really fine compositions for cello exist in the concerto literature. Of these, performers and listeners alike are in general agreement that the Dvorak Concerto belongs in the very front rank - many say at the top of the list. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g heavyweight vinyl pressing & lt;br & gt; • LP pressed at Optimal Media GmbH & lt;br & gt; • Made in Germany & lt;br & gt; • Limited time download voucher included & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Janos Starker, cello & lt;br & gt; London Symphony Orchestra & lt;br & gt; Antal Dorati, conductor & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;br & gt; Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) & lt;br & gt; Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104 & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1.
