World-class mic selection The mic set up used to record Toontrack SDX Roots - Brushes, Rods & Mallets is amazing, thanks to the massive collection at Blackbird Studios. Multiples of mics were used on every drum, 16 mono channels were used, as well as 7 stereo channels. The mics used ranged from Shure SM57s, to the vintage AKG 19, and a pair of Telefunken 251s. The speaker from a Yamaha NS-10 studio monitor was even used, it was flipped out of phase to produce enhanced lower frequencies of kick drums. Very cool.
