Composer, bandleader, sideman and educator, Dezron has established himself as a musicians musician, respected not only for his talent but also for his dedication to the authenticity of the music. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Born and raised in Hartford, CT, Dezron grew up surrounded by music. His first musical influences werent actually jazz, even though he is the nephew of the legendary drummer and composer, Walter Bolden (Nancy Wilson). The sounds that filled his home were of Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Minnie Ripperton, Diana Ross, Gregory Isaacs, Peter Tosh, The Clark Sisters, Mahalia Jackson, Commissioned, and the list goes on. As he explains, & quot;Jazz was always around, but not at my House. & quot; He was influenced by the music, moved by the way sound expressed emotion. At the age of 12, he was determined to harness that ability. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; With the encouragement of his mentor, the late saxophonist, composer, and educator Jackie McLean, he enrolled in the Jackie McLean Institute of African American Music at the Hartt School of Music. Studying at Hartt offered him the opportunity to learn from and work with such notable jazz musicians such as Nat Reeves, Steve Davis, and of course Jackie McLean. & lt;br & gt; Transcribing music into emotion was an effortless process for the young bassist. The years at Hartt helped Dezron to form his own technical approach to the bass, further developing his versatility. Natural talent combined with his ability to swing made Dezron one of the most sought after young bassists. While still in school he routinely performed with: Rene McLean, Steve Davis, Jimmy Greene, Alan Jay Palmer, Abraham Burton and Eric McPherson, Nita Zarif, and Montenia Shider. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Dezron is currently a member of Louis Hayes Jazz Communicators, Ravi Coltrane Quartet, Papo Vazquez Mighty Pirates, and he is also a long standing member of The Cyrus Chestnut Trio amongst many other associations within the music scene. Relocating to the United States in 2009, he received his masters degree in 2011 on full scholarship from the University of Miami. Upon graduation, he spent a year in Los Angeles playing piano with the likes of the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and the Jeff Hamilton Trio. Konrad returned to the East Coast in 2012 after being offered a position to lead the house trio at the coveted New York venue, 54 Below. Exclusively playing standards culled from the Great American Song Book, the trio carved their own sound one of brilliant distinction and sophistication, with an emphasis on melodic elegance and swinging verve. After a yearlong residency and two trio recordings, he joined the John Pizzarelli Quartet in November of 2013. Featuring two original compositions by Cyrille, the quintet also performs John Coltrane's & quot;Acknowledgement & quot; and & quot;Resolution & quot; sections from & quot;A Love Supreme & quot;. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Willard Jenkins of Jazz Times writes that Cyrille is & quot;a vital and very much underrated percussionist and bandleader & quot; who & quot;always brings a sense of the Motherland to his music, whether exploring free landscapes, or structured outings like most on this date... There is a feeling of Trane meets Sun Ra at the corner of Murray & amp; Lake on this date as the spirits of those two grand masters are in the air. & quot; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;In December 1994, a 55-year-old Andrew Cyrille made his first trip to Africa. First, Cyrille and a group of fellow jazzmen traveled to Ghana to perform at a festival. Then they ventured to Senegal, where they recorded Ode to the Living Tree in a Dakar studio. It isn't every day that jazz improvisers from the U.S. record in Senegal; most of the music that is recorded there is either contemporary African pop or traditional African tribal music. But then, African-American music (jazz as well as blues, rock, and funk) has greatly influenced African pop -- so it makes perfect sense that a studio in Dakar would roll out the carpet for visiting musicians from the United States. According to Cyrille, this historic CD was the first jazz session ever recorded in Senegal, where the drummer leads an inspired, cohesive quintet that employs David Murray on tenor sax and bass clarinet, Oliver Lake on alto sax, Adegoke Steve Colson on electric piano, and Fred Hopkins on bass. With such a cast, Ode could have easily been very left of center. But the performances are generally quite melodic; in fact, Ode is essentially an album of inside/outside post-bop (in the John Coltrane/Jackie McLean/Yusef Lateef vein) rather than ultra-radical, ultra-dissonant free jazz. Murray's tenor is downright lyrical on the peaceful ballad 'So That Life Can Endure...P.S. With Love.' Coltrane's music is a priority; the musicians bring a lot of passion to a 19-minute medley consisting of 'Acknowledgment' and 'Resolution' (both from A Love Supreme).
