Born in Weimar, Evelinde Trenkner studied under musicians such as Walter Gieseking and Wilhelm Kempff with the latter attesting very early that she had 'matured from a child prodigy to a musical personality' and especially emphasizing 'her unusual capability for spontaneous communication with the listener'.
Sontraud Spediel, born in Karlsruhe, studied under Yvonne Loriod, Branka Musulin, Stefan Askenase, and Geza Anda. She won of international competitions including (as the only German) the Bach Prize in Washington, the Jackson Prize of the Boston Symphony, and the Ettore Pozzoli Prize in Italy.
