Double LP!
Award-winning British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason presents his album titled Elgar, a brand new album of works anchored around Elgar's Cello Concerto, arguably the best-known work in the classical canon written for solo cello, which was first performed 100 years ago on October 27, 1919.
Sheku performs Elgar's Cello Concerto with Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. The concerto is complemented by a collection of pieces from Elgar's time, all chosen by Sheku as a reflection on the different moods and influences in Elgar's seminal concerto. Selections include new arrangements for various string settings, from Sheku's own arrangement for solo cello ("Blow the Wind Southerly") to a six-cello arrangement of "Nimrod."
He's a poet, with a complete understanding of the internal nature of Elgar's concerto.
The world's new favourite cellist.
