John Fahey Days Have Gone By 180g LP (Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;180g High Quality Vinyl! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Days Have Gone By continues Fahey's interest in soundscapes, sound effects and experimental music - begun on The Great San Bernardino Birthday Party & amp; Other Excursions - mixed in with more traditional guitar playing of his earlier musical style. Originally released in 1967. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;...Informally known as John Fahey, Volume 6, it’s an album very much in the experimental vein that he first started tapping in the early 1960s. Placed alongside such rustic, straight picking fare as “The Revolt of the Dyke Brigade” and “Joe Kirby Blues” are pieces that make early use of splicing and sampling. Mixing in the sounds of locomotives and whippoorwills the two-part “A Raga Called Pat” is at once eerie and meditative. Fahey’s strummed passages intersperse with ambient effects creating the illusion of wild wide-open spaces. Tunes like the somber and centering “My Shepherd Will Supply My Needs” are tempered with streaks of hopeful lyricism. A contemplative air of the artist in his element taking sonic paint and to easel permeates each piece and the resulting whole ranks with Fahey’s other masterpieces of the period such as Death Chants, Breakdowns and Military Waltzes and The Voice of the Turtle. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - allaboutjazz.com, Derek Taylor, October 2001 & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Lightnin' Hopkins Last Night Blues 180g LP (Vinyl)
& lt;b & gt; & lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt;Blues Album Released On180g Vinyl! & lt;/font & gt; & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Last Night Blues by Lightnin' Hopkins was originally released in 1961. Joined by Sonny Terry this is a stripped down, soulful release with Sonny delivering instinctive accompaniment to Hopkins' fluid finger picking guitar and gritty vocals. Reissued on 180 gram vinyl on a tip on sleeve with a paper and poly lined inner sleeve. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Outside of Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lightnin' Hopkins may be Texas's most distinctive and influential blues export. His easy, fluid fingerpicking and witty, extemporaneous storytelling are always a delight, and his performances on Last Night Blues are no exception. The album is spare and acoustic, with Hopkins's voice and guitar accompanied by minimal percussion and Sonny Terry's harmonica. Terry's contributions really add a lot to these tunes, threading a high, lonesome whine on the downtempo tunes and a chugging, propulsive shuffle on the faster ones. Hopkins is, of course, one of the kings of the blues boogie, but he's equally compelling on the slow blues, and he never missteps throughout this fine set. All told, this dynamite disc represents what the blues should be: stripped-down, soulful, and full of truth. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Tip-on sleeve & lt;br & gt; • Paper & amp; poly-lined inner sleeve & lt;br & gt; • Mastered by George Horn and Anne-Marie Suenram at Fantasy Studios & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Lightnin' Hopkins, guitar, vocals & lt;br & gt; Sonny Terry, harmonica, vocals & lt;br & gt; Leonard Gaskin, bass & lt;br & gt; Belton Evans, drum & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side A: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Originally released in 1970, Starsailor is the most unique and uncompromising release of Tim Buckley's brief but productive career. Tim Buckley Lorca 180g LP (Vinyl)
Buckley's 1970 Asylum album is once again available on vinyl. Continuing his jazz explorations, Buckley created the most & quot;out & quot; album of his career. Full of folk and jazz inspired improvisations, unusual instrumentation, and extended compositions, Lorca is a standout album from a rich and diverse catalog. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The 5/4 time signature title track is strikingly weird with haunted house pipe organ and two faster-paced numbers, the mellow contemplative love song & quot;I Had A Talk With My Woman & quot; and the slightly funky blues-based & quot;Nobody Walkin' & quot;, are even fun. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Musicians: & lt;br & gt; Tim Buckley & lt;br & gt; Lee Underwood & lt;br & gt; John Balkin, bass, pipe organ (1) & lt;br & gt; Carter Collins, congas & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Features: & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Subdued electric guitar, bass, vibes, marimba and percussion surround Tim's trademark 12-string and his incredibly capable soaring voice. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; One of the best albums of the late '60s and among Buckley's most highly regarded recordings, Happy Sad was a change-up pitch for the eclectic L.A. singer/songwriter. & amp;nbsp; Sounding a bit like Fred Neil's capitol-era albums, Buckley and his small, acoustic-based ensemble created a beautiful, jazz-tinged form of folk-rock. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;bull; 180g Vinyl LP & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. John Fahey Death Chants, Breakdowns and Military Waltzes 180g LP (Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;180g Vinyl LP! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; In 1967, Fahey's first two albums were re-recorded for the burgeoning stereo market which resulted in this version of Death Chants, Breakdowns and Military Waltzes. Death Chants is John Fahey's second album, following the brilliantly apocryphal Blind Joe Death. As massive as that earlier work was, it represented only a tentative first step towards the fields of hodologic splendor that our hero would go on to create. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Death Chants represents a much more fully realized syncretism of the modernist and primitive poles between which Fahey wobbled. It is also the first album he deigned to release entirely under his own name and the one with which he truly began to cast a shadow across the blandly-lit landscape of the world's subconscious. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; It's a work that beautifully displays both Fahey's virtuosity on folk and blues guitar and a distinct composing voice that draws much from folk and blues traditions... & quot; & lt;/b & gt; -Richie Unterberger, allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Fred Neil Sessions 180g LP (Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;180 Gram Vinyl! Vocal Genius! Includes Cover of & quot; Please Send Me Somebody to Love & quot;! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Released in 1967, Sessions is the follow-up to Neil's classic self-titled solo album. Although the long, meandering, raga influenced songs on Sessions are a bit perplexing at first, the album's rewards increase with each subsequent listening session. Neil's vocal performances are astounding and the album as a whole is a meditative experience. An under-rated LP from one of American folk's finest voices. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Reissued on 180 gram vinyl with a tip-on jacket. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Sessions was a peculiar record that seemed to find Neil losing his focus to some degree, even as he increased his appetite for experimentation with arrangements and songwriting. The loose, informal feel of most of the cuts suggested that the performances were rehearsals or jams, rather than finely honed finished products... Neil's vocal genius, however, remained intact, and the best two cuts were the most straight-ahead: & quot;Felicity & quot; is a nice oblique meditation-cum-love song, and the cover of Percy Mayfield's & quot; Please Send Me Somebody to Love & quot; is effective. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Richie Unterberger, allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Musicians: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; Fred Neil, vocals, guitar & lt;br & gt; James E. John Fahey Volume 1 Blind Joe Death 180g LP (Vinyl)
& lt;font color= & quot;#FF0000 & quot; & gt; & lt;b & gt;180g Vinyl LP! & lt;/b & gt; & lt;/font & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; After moving to Berkeley, California, Fahey's career began to take off. After a mildly successful second album, & quot;Death Chants, Breakdowns, & amp; Military Waltzes, & quot; he decided to re-release his earlier album. In doing so, he chose to re-record much of the material. In 1967, Fahey was successful with many albums under his belt. His first two albums would be released in stereo and both were re-recorded, resulting in this third version of Blind Joe's Death. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; For several years major labels had been issuing records in both mono and stereo formats. By 1967, Takoma was doing well enough financially to justify the re-recording of Fahey's first and second albums for the burgeoning stereo market. Thus Volume 1: Blind Joe Death, as the record would be titled henceforth, was recorded for the third time and it is probably this release that most people are familiar with today. For the new version Fahey recorded all but one song on the album. He recorded one new track for the reissue: & quot;I'm Gonna Do All I Can for My Lord. & quot; His new take of the Episcopal hymn & quot;In Christ There Is No East or West & quot; would become the most well-known and oft-played song on the album. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Fahey's experimental blues-folk acoustic fusion is just beginning to take shape...few if any other guitarists were attempting to interpret blues and folk idioms in such an idiosyncratic fashion in the late '50s and early '60s. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; -Richie Unterberger, allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side One: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Tim Buckley Blue Afternoon 180g LP (Vinyl)
Originally released in 1969 Blue Afternoon is Buckley's fourth album and his first for Frank Zappa's Straight label. Continuing with the jazz inflected folk-rock he first unveiled on his previous release, Happy Sad, Buckley's songs are complimented here by classy arrangements featuring vibes player David Friedman and Lee Underwood's beautifully understated guitar work. A classic from perhaps the most unique American singer-songwriter of the '60s and '70s. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Features: & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt; 1. The 12 tracks include his monster hits & quot;634-5789, & quot; & quot;Ninety-Nine and a Half (Won't Do), & quot; & quot;In the Midnight Hour, & quot; and & quot;Land of 1000 Dances & quot; (the last of which was his first Top Ten pop hit). Collectors will be more interested in the non-hit cuts, which are of nearly an equal level. These include covers of the R & amp;B standards & quot;Something You Got, & quot; & quot;Mercy Mercy, & quot; and & quot;Barefootin' & quot;; several original tunes written in collaboration with Memphis soul greats Steve Cropper, Eddie Floyd, and David Porter; and Bobby Womack's & quot; She's So Good to Me. & quot; It all adds up to one of the most consistent '60s soul albums ever. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Richie Unterberger, allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; • 180g vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Limited Edition Turquoise Vinyl - Only 500 Copies & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; Side 1: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. Iggy Pop The Idiot 180g LP (Vinyl)
Originally released in 1977, this was the first album Iggy Pop made after the dissolution of the Stooges, several jailings and a self-imposed stay in a mental institution. Produced by David Bowie, and including music written almost entirely by him, this is Iggy’s most introspective and heavy work. Much more mechanical than the sleazy proto-punk of the Stooges, The Idiot was a huge influence on the post-punk sound of folks like Joy Division and Magazine. An absolute classic on 180g vinyl. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Features: & lt;br & gt; • 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; Musicians: & lt;br & gt; Iggy Pop, vocals & lt;br & gt; David Bowie, keyboards, synthesizer, guitar, piano, saxophone, xylophone, backing vocals & lt;br & gt; Carlos Alomar, guitar & lt;br & gt; Dennis Davis, drums & lt;br & gt; George Murray, bass & lt;br & gt; Phil Palmer, guitar & lt;br & gt; Michel Santangeli, drums & lt;br & gt; Laurent Thibault, bass & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1. It has a photograph of Beautiful Linda Getchell among others, even Evil Devil Woman, also photographs of Fahey's relatives. And who is that singing? A famous, popular and fun release. I don't even know who's playing on this in spots. Does anybody know? & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The Voice Of The Turtle is one of the most beguiling albums from one of America’s most legendarily beguiling musicians. Originally released in 1968 on his own Takoma label, Fahey credits some of the compositions and performances to the fictional guitarist Blind Joe Death, and some of the songs are actually rumored to not be Fahey at all but in fact obscure blues 78s. Whatever the case may be, it’s one of Fahey’s most adventurous and beautiful LPs. Reissued here on 180 gram gatefold vinyl in a deluxe tip-on jacket with an exact replica of the original 12 page booklet. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot; One of his more obscure early efforts, Voice of the Turtle is both listenable and wildly eclectic, going from scratchy emulations of early blues 78s and country fiddle tunes to haunting guitar-flute combinations and eerie ragas. 'A Raga Called Pat, Part III' and 'Part IV' is a particularly ambitious piece, its disquieting swooping slide and brief bits of electronic white noise reverb veering into experimental psychedelia. Most of this is pretty traditional and acoustic in tone, however, though it has the undercurrent of dark, uneasy tension that gives much of Fahey's '60s material its intriguing combination of meditation and restlessness. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Richie Unterberger, allmusic.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;John Fahey... was American folk guitar's master eccentric, a dazzling fingerpicker who transformed traditional blues forms with the advanced harmonies of modern classical music, then mined that beauty with a prankster's wit. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Rolling Stone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Features: & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt;• 180g Vinyl & lt;br & gt; • Gatefold Jacket Deluxe Tip-On & lt;br & gt; • Exact Replica of the Original 12 Page Booklet & lt;br & gt; • Ranked #78 - Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitarists & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;br & gt; & lt;/b & gt;1. Britain's greatest pop diva Dusty Springfield was the finest white soul singer of her era and this landmark Atlantic Records album from 1969 is a masterpiece, a perfect marriage of pop and soul...contains her top 10 hit & quot;Son Of A Preacher Man & quot; plus several other hit singles and classic tracks... & quot;Dusty In Memphis & quot; was picked as the #9 coolest record of all time in the April 11, 2002 issue of Rolling Stone and chosen by Mojo magazine as one of the best 100 albums ever released... a recognized classic around the world! Simply put, & quot;Dusty in Memphis & quot; is one of the greatest blue eyed soul albums of all time! A certified classic and must have for any collection! & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Born in London, Springfield was a great soul singer hidden inside a white British pop queen — racking up Motown-style hits such as & quot;I Only Want to Be With You & quot; — when Atlantic producer Jerry Wexler brought her way down South, to Memphis, to make this album. She was so intimidated by the idea of recording with session guys from her favorite Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding hits that she never sang a note there. Her vocals were overdubbed in New York. But the result was blazing soul and sexual honesty ( & quot;Breakfast in Bed, & quot; & quot;Son of a Preacher Man & quot;) that transcended both race and geography. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - www.rollingstone.com & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; The folks at 4 Men With Beards are outdoing themselves this time - audiophile remastering from the original master tapes, original artwork, gatefold sleeve and includes new exclusive liner notes by maverick '60s music historian Alec Palao and guitarist/songwriter Chuck Prophet. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt; & quot;Springfield was white and English but sang as if born with black American soul. In 1968, newly signed to Atlantic and under the tutelage of its star producer Wexler, she went to the mecca of Dixie R & amp;B to record the gospel-tinged Dusty in Memphis. She ended up doing her vocals in New York, but no matter: Her deep, heated voice captured the carnal fire of the South. & quot; & lt;/b & gt; - Rolling Stone & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;b & gt;Selections: & lt;/b & gt; & lt;br & gt; 1.
