Established in 1815, Ardbeg is revered by connoisseurs around the world as among the peatiest and smokiest, yet most complex, of all the Islay malts. Ardbeg’s home is the small, remote Scottish Isle of Islay (pronounced eye-lah). . The Ardbeg Distillery perches by a rocky cove on the island’s wild and untamed southern coast. Celtic monks, raiding Norsemen, the Lords of the Isles, 19th century smugglers…they’ve all played their part in Ardbeg’s story. Islay’s dramatic past lives in the Ardbeg brand to this day. Light Gold. A burst of intense smoky fruit escapes into the atmosphere – peat infused with zesty lemon and lime, wrapped in waxy dark chocolate. Bold menthol and black pepper slice through the sweet smoke followed by tarry ropes and graphite. As you dip your nose in further, savour the aroma of smoked fish and crispy bacon alongside green bell peppers, baked pineapple and pear juice. Add water and breathe in the vortex of aromas rising from the glass. An oceanic minerality brings a breath of cool, briny seaspray on chalky cliffs.
