If your source is 1080p (full HD) but one of your TVs only supports 720p (lower resolution), the source will automatically send a 720p resolution to all displays, even if one or more of your displays supports higher resoltions such as 1080p or 4K. By using a downscaler, you can make it so you can view your content on all your screens without sacrificing resolution on the TVs that can support 4K Resolutions. In such a setup, you place the Echo between your splitter and your 720p TV. That way the 1080p signal gets sent everywhere else. The Echo then downscales the 1080p signal to a 720p signal so that the TV can display it.
