Chile Pequin is small, but packs a lot of heat. The pequin pepper originates in the Mexican state of Tabasco. Common uses include pickling, salsas, soups, and vinegars. These tiny chiles come from a plant which susceptible to disease and sometimes difficult to cultivate, resulting in a more expensive chili pod. On a heat scale, the chile pequin measures in between 30,000 - 60,000 Scoville Heat Units, making it similar in heat level to a more common chili like the cayenne pepper.
