"Bu$hleaguer" is a song by Pearl Jam, released on November 15, 2002 as a single from the band's seventh studio album, Riot Act (2002). The song is a satirical commentary on President George W. Bush. At many shows during the 2003 North American tour promoting Riot Act, Vedder performed "Bu$hleaguer" with a rubber mask of George W. Bush, wearing it at the beginning of the song and then hanging it on a mic stand to allow him to sing. The band made news when it was reported that several fans left after Vedder had "impaled" the Bush mask on his mic stand at the band's April 1, 2003 show in Denver, Colorado show at the Pepsi Center. Following a performance of the song at Pearl Jam's April 30, 2003 show in Uniondale, New York at the Nassau Coliseum, the band was met with boos from the crowd and chants of "U-S-A." Vedder responded by defending his right to free speech and the band followed with a performance of The Clash's "Know Your Rights".

"Love Boat Captain" was released as a Riot Act single on February 18, 2003, and features lyrics written by vocalist Eddie Vedder and music co-written by Vedder and keyboardist Boom Gaspar. The music video for "Love Boat Captain" was directed by James Frost and filmed at Seattle, Washington's Chop Suey club in September 2002. The video consists of a filmed live performance of the band rather than a conceptual video. It was one of five videos shot at the club to promote Riot Act (including "I Am Mine", "Save You", "Thumbing My Way", and "1/2 Full"). Up to that point the band had not made any music videos since 1998's "Do the Evolution".
