The Krauss-Maffei Leopard 2A7 Tank is a variant of the Leopard 2 tank that was developed for the German Army. The Leopard 2 tank is a main battle tank that was first introduced in the late 1970s. The 2A7 variant was developed in the early 2010s, with the first tanks being delivered in December 2014.
The 2A7 was designed to be optimized for combat in urban terrain, with features such as a crew-compartment cooling-system, a new 20 kW auxiliary power unit, a Saab Barracuda Mobile Camouflage System, a field trial proven combat management and information system, and a retrofitted Attica thermal imaging module in the commander optics. It was also equipped with a new armor package that features Tungsten, Titanium as well as Nano-Ceramics, providing improved protection to the tank.
The 2A7 was used by the German Army in a number of conflicts, including the War in Afghanistan, and has been deployed to a number of different roles, including reconnaissance, security, and direct combat. It has also been used in peacekeeping operations, such as the UN mission in Mali (MINUSMA)
